New guitar with SD Blackouts/Blackouts metal youtube demo..

Phantasmagoria

watch where you point that sabre
Just finished this demo/video for my new superstrat with blackouts.

Had a blast with some over-indulgent shredding & cheesy visual effects lol, but anyway ..here it is:

Re: New guitar with SD Blackouts/Blackouts metal youtube demo..

Nice man. This is what I have been waiting for.
Cleans from the neck is amazingly good. Crisp, punchy and thick.

Thanks!

Re: New guitar with SD Blackouts/Blackouts metal youtube demo..

Hey no problem...I had fun doing it...more elaborate this time compared the the deathbucker video..lol. Yeah, the cleans from the neck pup are awesome & the contrast between that and the ringing, bell-like middle pup tones is huge....definately a useful combo. The Metal pup has a pretty nasty snarl with high gain, mids are way up front. I expected the boost to be reallly noisy and almost unusable mush, but it's just a more saturated, even thicker/darker sounding version of the normal setting...I love it! The neck (ahb-1) pup is a dream to shred with...smooth, dark & warm, while the middle one is great for bluesy, pentatonic based stuff & hard rocking rhythms.

All-in-all a great set of pickups!

AHB-2 and AHB-1n will definitely be in my next guitar. I hope I can buy one soon :D

Re: New guitar with SD Blackouts/Blackouts metal youtube demo..

very cool! I LOVE the guitar!! I was suprised by how great the single coil sounds ! esp the lead bit..

I wish I could hear a vid like this doing a back to back of Blackouts vs the other guys.. Im not big on the actives I have in my Wm526. Im afraid to buy blackouts cuz I dont know if it is the tone/feel of the actives Im not big on, or if its the ones that are in there.

Looky what I found!!! Other brand sounds very thin in comparison. Esp clean.. Only thing I have to decide now is reg or metal...??

Thanks man! Yeah, I don't have the "others" in any of my guitars or I'd be happy to do a back to back.

Had a friends B.C. Rich wth those other pups in it for a couple of months and did'nt really care for them much myself. The Blackouts are actually a LOT different, with a slightly less cutting, rounder sound which is still tight as hell without being sterile/clinical/flat. They sound sort of like passives (on steroids) but with the advantages of actives...( ie a really tight bottom end, thick saturated smooth output, wide dynamic range etc...). I'd say give them a go, they're definately different :)

Edit: Yeah, they really sound (and FEEL) fuller.

haha...cool! Do you have something specific in mind?

Not yet. It is going to be a V probably. Something with HH design, neckthrough and pickups I can replace :D Jackson RR24 come to my mind but it does not have neck pup :(

Re: New guitar with SD Blackouts/Blackouts metal youtube demo..

V's are cool! The RR24 looks awesome. ESP's new SV standard looks great too, same specs with two pups, but expensive and comes with two Emg 81's..probably not worth the import price (and then swapping out the pups...). Yeah, not too many V's with those specs really...RR1's..King V's..some BC Rich's I guess..

RR1 and King V are great guitars but I would not replace the pups in them. They sound amazing as they are. Thats why I am looking for a V that I can replace the pups. I am in no hurry though. Just checking for now.

Re: New guitar with SD Blackouts/Blackouts metal youtube demo..

Yeah, exactly....once you get to the higher end models with the mahogany bodies, neck-throughs, ebony fingerboards etc..the pups are usually a great fit anyway.

Re: New guitar with SD Blackouts/Blackouts metal youtube demo..

I'm getting Blackouts for my Jackson RR1, the standard JB set is nice but a little lacking in the low end and output department. Consequently my X Series Warrior with Livewire Metal pickups has a much more ballsy full tone despite the fact it is less than quarter the price of the USA series RR1.

RR1 is a great guitar and congrats on your new BOs

I want to point out that there so many other factors to consider. Such as;
  1. How much output one really needs and wants.
  2. The amps you are using and how hard you want to hit them.
  3. Also the wood. Actives tend to mask the wood's affect more than passives do.
  4. AnAlnico8 will give you more output, warmer tone and tighter bottom end in that JB if needed be and it will cost you only 5 bucks or so.

Re: New guitar with SD Blackouts/Blackouts metal youtube demo..

All good points of consideration.

I have a Randall V2 and find it sounds its clearest and most dynamic with the gain quite low. This is why I have to compensate with extremely high output pickups haha.

I have heard rumblings about these Alnico8s before, where would I pick one up from?

Planning to keep the original JB set to maybe put back in at a later date because there are certain aspects of it's sound I am a big fan of. Especially the articulation on fast picking.

Re: New guitar with SD Blackouts/Blackouts metal youtube demo..

Got blackouts in today, sound incredible. I would recommend them even for U.S.A Jacksons.

You can get the A8s from an ebay store where forum members are recently shopping from

Yeah, awesome. You made a good choice dude :)

@ Cakire82...unrelated, but I was wondering what you thought of the Jackson Dk2S Dinky with the sustainiac? I have an opportunity to pick one up (amber burst) for a very good price..
