New guitar!

So I've been dreaming about this for a long time - 10 yearsImageUploadedByTapatalk1412785180.973183.jpg... It speaks for itself IMO :D

I've been out of the gear loop for years now but I do remember the many complaints about Gibson QC. The fit and finish are very good on this; the only thing I saw was a tiny bit of glue on the binding near the neck joint.

I was tempted to get one of the new fangled guitars with the e tuners but they were just too hideous for a traditionalist like myself.

I'm pretty happy right now and I can't wait to get off work to play it.

Re: New guitar!

Small pickguard is so good on those as is the pineapple headstock logo. well done

Re: New guitar!

I love SGs. Glad to see it with the small pickguard...hate the large one. Beautiful guitar. It's gonna be a blast to play.

Re: New guitar!

Quite right Doc - love the small pickguards on SGs. That classic cherry SG is a winner! Great for pup changes too:biglaugh:

Re: New guitar!

Thanks everyone! I just bought an amp today so I've been messing with that with my tele. I need to change the strings on the SG to 10-46, but I'm too lazy ATM.

Re: New guitar!

I played one of the '62 Les Paul VOS Reissues today and loved it. I'm a big guy and SGs just look like a toy guitar around my neck. But I love them. Congrats!

Re: New guitar!

You know i have never played an sg.

Are they good or what?

Like with most guitars, have to play a couple to find the one that fits. They may take a bit of getting used to because the neck seems longer. I'm personally not crazy about the bunched up controls and top mounted jack. The sound damn good though, especially the P90 models.

Out of the few that I played, the one I liked the most was an original '61 Junior a family friend owned - screamer. It had been modified with Grovers (square plastic buttons) and given a Nashville type tune-o-matic/stop tail in the 70s probably.

Re: New guitar!

Just what the heck is it with Gibson and those darn Min-e-tuners that they're putting on just about every single one of their electrics today anyways ? IMO, those are for lazy people. That is a nice looking SG though and I'm glad to see that you got one with out that min-e-tuner crap.

Re: New guitar!

I love the look of a classic SG like that. Big Congrats! I never liked the way they played until I picked up a '61 reissue. That thing was darn near perfect.
