I'm looking for a new guitar, hopefully in less than a month. I'm thinking about going back to my roots. I usually play blues/rock and country, and that's landed my plenty of gigs.....but, I'm a rocker at heart I reckon. I've always played strats, and that's all I've ever owned, save for many different pickup configurations. I know I want a double hummy guitar. I've been thinking of maybe an explorer, or something like that. Just throw a bunch of ideas at me I guess.



BTW: My roots are like Social Disortion, Bad Company, Skynard, The Stones, ZZ Top. I guess classic and modern rock. Not alternative though I would say. Dammit, I know what I mean.

Get a Les Paul! Im a strat player too, never been much for the Les Paul... ive tried some, didnt like em.. but lately ive been having a huge Les Paul envi after visiting all the local shops and stumbling on the awsomeness of humbucking guitars.. it looked sweet, played great and sounded nice acousticly but then i pluged it in a 1987x w/ a SD-1 in front... i dont think ive ever had so much GAS built up by just playing a E chord lol

Back to the question:

Get a used USA Hamer. I got y '81 Special for $400 at a pawn shop. After putting a Custom/APH combo in it, I can honestly say it's one of the best guitars I own. I also own a '97 LP Standard, and while the Hamer is a completely diferent sounding and feeling guitar than my gibby, it's the one guitar I play the most.

I'm willing to drop about 700. I've been considering a R8, just because of the neck on Scotts, but I aint got that kinda dough to be dropping.


Also, there's a reason I play strats. I dont like my guitars too flashy. That's why I've tried not to make any choices on Hamers and PRS's and the like. Too good a guitar for what I treat mine like.

I'm a strat guy, too, and I would definitely recommend a used Hamer. If it's already got a few dings, you're less likely to worry about it. My Daytona is beat to hell, all by my own hand. Yeah, it's a great guitar, but I bought it to play it. Every ding adds character as far as I'm concerned.

I would also consider a Godin with a couple of humbuckers, or at least one that is routed to accomodate them. They're great guitars for the money, IMO.

Look on Ebay and see what you find. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll try to help. I think that either choice will serve you better than some Pacific Rim import POS.

Definitely check out some of Carvin's guitars. You can get a great guitar made for you for a very reasonable price. Or you can buy something that they have in stock. Something like this maybe.

I agree i never really got those V shapes.... more like ornaments than guitars, i do kind of like explorers so id go with one of them.

Well, I just got back from the local shop. Played every electric in the house. Nothing really fit my fancy. There is a strat there that I've had my eye on for quite some time, and I'm thinking that maybe with new pickups I'd be able to pull it off. It's got Fralin Real 54's, and I've already got a strat loaded with 'em, so I reckon you might be looking for those up for sale pretty soon. I"m thinking maybe a JBjr in the bridge, a lil 59 in the neck with a coil tap, and maybe a Hot stack in the middle. I dunno. The guitar has a silver engraved pickguard, and the pickup covers are a shiney silver as well, so if I can, I'd like to keep that look.

I'm definately a Les Paul/humbucker guy. I bought an epi LP Standard Plus for 750 CAN, and havn't had a single problem with it. Great guitar, awesome tone, and great playability. I was lucky and got a great quality epi, but there are some lesser quality Standard Plus's out there for sure. Play them, if you find a goot epi, you're absolutely laughing.
