Re: New Guitar

IMHO, you really need to have a decent amp to accentuate your purchase. I was an earlier fan of PRS until the SE series came out. The only thing PRS about them is the Label on the headstock. I really did not like the feel or the tones coming out of those guitars (Tremonti SE, Santana SE). You could replace the pups, but what was the purpose of buying the PRS in the first place. As most have said earlier, you must really play the guitars and make your own decision unless you are more interested in hood ornaments rather than quality axes. If you are making an online purchase, visit your local store and try similar models so that you at least have a feel of what you are buying. The sad thing is, you could spend several G's on a new guitar, but when you plug it in to your 15watt Frontman, you are going to be disappointed!! If your budget allows, you would be better off splitting the funds to buy decent guitar and amp so that you could enjoy your purchase. Good Luck on your quest!

Re: New Guitar

Until I can afford the rack rig of my dreams, I opted for the Duoverb to cover my bases. When you go shopping, dial in the sound you want with a Flextone at the store and start swapping guitars without adjusting the tones of the amp. This way, you will get an idea of which guitar plays which tones. With an amp as versatile as Line6 modelers, you can make just about any guitar sound good. I played a Peavey "Strat" through my Duoverb for awhile, and was impressed when I finally plugged a quality guitar in. I had to readjust EVERY setting due to compensating for the POS Predator.

It is an exhausting process to find your guitar. Considering price, tone, playability, appearance, and other factors of importance to you, you don't want to buy something that you will come to hate in a short while. Watch out for those "Act Now" sales techniques. If it is something you are considering, put it on layaway and think about it for a day or two. Also, keep an eye on eBay for similar guitars. Even if you are not going to purchase one off eBay, you can get an idea of the market value for theses guitars.
One last opinion, one of my friends has a nice Epi Custom. He would always leave his gear at my house to be ready for practice. I spent a great deal of time on his and came to like the action. For the price he paid, I was thoroughly impressed with this guitar. If I were on a budget for the guitars you listed, I would most likely go for the Custom. I played the Black Beauty, but the middle pup just took something away,, rather than adding to it. Opinions are like ..., everyone has them, but no one likes them shoved in your face! Go with your own feelings, it is after all, YOUR guitar! Again, Good Luck on your search.
