New guy here - thought I'd post a clip

Just joined the forum - I have a small home studio that work in when I get in the right frame of mind. I use Sonar, a Layla, old Tascam board, Alesis DM pro for drum sound source. I don't sing which everyone is thankful for so I just record stuff as it pops in my head. I program all the drums through Sonar.

Anyway, I came here in search of an answer to a strat staggered pole pickup question I had and decided to join the forum.

Anyway, here's a clip. I'll post more stuff as I go along.

Yeah man, great clip --- drum programming was really well done, and you channeled Eddie pretty awesomely.

Glad you decided to join the forum!

What's your guitar / effects / amp rig look like?

Again, welcome!

Re: New guy here - thought I'd post a clip

Thanks guys,

Actually for that clip I used my old JCM800 at a low volume (hate to record at low volumes but no choice when you're doing it at 1 AM with wife and kids sleeping) I used an old MXR90 on the solo. Other than that it's pretty simple. The L&R guitar tracks are just straight into the JCM - everything mic'd - nothing direct. I modded the JCM years ago with an extra gain stage that let's me get "ok" tone at lower volumes but the best sound out of that amp is with 5881's in the output and hittin' them pretty hard. I use a Power Brake and pass that into a Weber attenuator. The Weber is weird by itself, but using it as a "slave" to the Power Brake, I can really get some control over the output tone on the Marshall. The PB by itself is a bit too bright for me and the Weber sucks the edge out completely so it's an interesting balance.

Here's another clip not-so-Eddie-ish :) The guitar on this one is my old 61 Epiphone strung with 11's Clip

Wow man, I really like that second clip! Cool riff and great tone!

I can't imagine firing up a JCM 800, even at low volume, with a wife and kids asleep! You must be a ninja!

Yeah man! It's funny to watch the Strat video now --- it was a while back and my touch and technique have changed a lot since I recorded it!

That P90 video is fairly recent, and man I had no idea how awesome P90's were until about a month ago! I was missing out!

P.S. I use a little bitty amp, I'm too chicken to crank up the biggun in my apartment!

Re: New guy here - thought I'd post a clip

welcome and WOW !! ... what an intro to the forum ... killer chops and tone and riffage ... just stunning ... did you use a wah in the first tune? .. you have such a vowel-like bloom to your notes - spectacular

where abouts in MD are you?

cheers for sharing your clips

Wow..... I fell off my chair. Twice.

That first clip is really swinging! The second is really cool as well. But one thing... The bass frequencies are really really huge in the mix, at least through my speakers. Give that guitar some more room and elbow space -- it deserves it. ;)

Thanks guys - wow, I *really* appreciate the great feedback. I appreciate the input into the mix - I need to get a new set of near field ref monitors, the ones I have are a little thin sounding and end up over compensating on the lows. I'll try a different approach on my next clips. :)

tone4days - I'm right outside of Baltimore. I used an old Phase 90 on this first tune

yeah, but the new guy can PLAY !
:D

:laugh2:

As long as you guys stay on your side of the border instead of coming down here and driving like Mario gat-danged Andretti!

Welcome to the board!

What kind of guitar(s) are you playing?

Heheh... I'll stay north of the border :naughty:

Here's a link to most of the guitars I currently have -> guitars
- Others not seen here are an acoustic and a 1938 National 6 string Lap Steel that I'm trying to learn how to play... That's a different world no doubt

I play mostly homemade stuff - but I have a custom Hamer from my hairband days that's scalloped from the 12th up that really feels and sounds good. I run the action pretty high on all my guitars and string with 9's and 10's. Use Duncan pickups in everything. The Hamer has an old Trembucker (with the pole pieces that flank each string in parallel and a JB in the front. Some of the other standard humbucker guitars I own use Duncan Distortions in the bridge and JB's in the front. I just put a Full Shred in the PRS in the bridge position - it now has a little more balls to it. I back the pickups further away from the strings than most guys I know - it sounds tons better to me... that and keeping the action high seem to give me the best control over things.

One more clip here and I'm done for now :friday: Another Clip
This one is using an old beat up silver face Fender Bassman I tore apart and modded (heavily).

Wow. Fantastic stuff.

And welcome to the Forum.

Stay away from the off topic section, once you get sucked in you'll never escape...

Thanks man. Much appreciated - after family and Christmas, I should have some more stuff to post. Finishing up a new amp so I'll have something new to record with while I tweak it.
