Very nice! How do you like the Torpedo Live? I am using Wall Of Sound III to blend with my mic'd signal since I use an iso cab. The IR is blended in to add just a touch of 'air'.

Edit: is that a Carvin on the right??

Re: Post a photo of what you use to record songs with, your "home studio"

I use a 27" iMac running Logic Pro X, with a pair of dual concentric Tannoy System 600A actives for monitoring

For the front end, I have a custom made all tube mic pre and compressor, made by New Zealand retro designer Greg Brice.

The audio interface is a Metric Halo ULN-2, with the 2D card fitted. This also runs DSP on the metal and has stunning ultra low noise mic pres to give an optional 'wire with gain' style input

Tracking is in Logic Pro X, and for drums I use Addictive Drums 2. I use the Korg PadKontrol MIDI controller for playing in drums by hand

I then mix ITB with the Harrison Mixbus 2 console software

'Home Style' mastering is done back in Logic with Waves plugins

Cheers................................. wahwah

Very respectable setup!
How do you like MixBus? Have you tried the HLS or NLS plugin from Waves? How close is MixBus to the sound of a Harrison desk? I mixed one record on a Harrison in the early 90s. Was a great sounding desk.

Photo isn't worth post... Best quality guitar recording I've used is Guitar>>>Line6 Sonic Port>>>iPad w/Ampkit Software. Compared to mic'd recordings using traditional methods, the Sonic Port was the best recorded sound I've come accross.

I love Mixbus, it sounds great and after all the time spent tracking and editing in Logic, it's refreshing to go to what feels like a new environment to mix, even though your chair hasn't moved :)

The eq and dynamics in the Harrison channel strips, along with the tape saturation on the busses and master, do a fantastic job of bringing cohesion to a mix. When I first moved to my current hometown in the early 80s, the band I was in was signed to an independent who put us into the studio to write and demo, and they had a beautiful old Harrison. Everything sounded so good through that console, it was inspiring to work on. I remember hearing the engineers talking about the new desk they were getting, and how excited they were that the faders moved. They took out all the windows in the place to crane in one of the first SSLs in the country, and the Harrison was gone. The next session we did in there, it was like somebody had refrigerated the place, sonically. All of the warmth and musicality was gone, but it's like the engineers were too busy playing with the moving faders to notice. The studio was never the same again.

The DAW behind Mixbus is a bit of a dog, but I generally just import stems from Logic and treat the DAW like a tape player. For whatever reason, mixing seems to be quicker and more fun in Mixbus than it is in Logic. They've done a great job of representing their sound and functionality, with all of the obvious advantages of still being in the box.

I haven't messed with NLS, but it looks fantastic. The Metric Halo's onboard DSP includes an 80 bit mixer with a similar concept of adding various iconic pres and hardware to channel strips but without the same degree of control as NLS. I just know I'll get stuck on the Neve settings. I'm gonna check that out on an upcoming mix, thanks for the heads up. The only Kramer thing I've checked out is his 2 track tape plug, which is fantastic, so I'll have to give that Helios plug a listen too.

Re: Post a photo of what you use to record songs with, your "home studio"

The Kramer stuff is great (I am a bit of a Waves plugin junkie). My master bus is typically: NLS group controller for VCAs > HLS > Kramer Master Tape > Kramer PiE compressor.

The Helios has a VERY strange layout/functionality to it, very quirky (you will see when you try it), but I LOVE IT on the acoustic guitar bus and sometimes on snare/kick drums.

Thanks!
I need a real stand for the mic but pretty much I'm happy with it

Dude, I love DIY solutions! This was a stereo rig I set up a while back to capture 2 different drivers in a 4x12. Worked fine!

Re: Post a photo of what you use to record songs with, your "home studio"

Without zooming in I would have no noticed what you used for the mics haha. That is nice.
I like to see photos like that

I absolutely love the Torpedo. It does everything I wanted, and then some. The Two Notes guys are awesome too.

Yep, that's my Carvin custom DC127M on the right. I had it built back in 2006, I believe.

Re: Post a photo of what you use to record songs with, your "home studio"

I love this thread so much I gave away all my thumbs.

Re: Post a photo of what you use to record songs with, your "home studio"

2x 18 channel firewire boards in tandem into a dedicated tower with Cubase and Protools
4 channel reel to reel
Boss 1600CD
One live room for drums/live takes and one control/dry room
Lots of mics (Senheiser, Shure, MXL, Heil, AKG etc)
Gretsch in house kit
I have so many guitar and bass amps it would take ages to go take stock and list them all. I'll post some pictures a bit later. We tracked Odimorsus with the current setup.

Re: Post a photo of what you use to record songs with, your "home studio"

I have no usable pic shooting device at the moment but this video was shot there:

Compared to the nice clean "labour of love" like places that folks usually have, it is quite a mess :) It's a 3x3meters dark room with a tiny window. But it's my last stand, sort of. Everything is DIY and oversecured. I have some thick DIY absorber panels around that I can combine into a vocal booth, amp booth, mixing area or sleeping room. Cables. Occassional some living mess that mixes down albums when I sleep.

DAW - Reaper, in-da-box
Plugs: Stillwell, Melda, iZotope, SSL Duende + some usable freebies
OS - Win7
A Interface - Focusrite Saffire Pro 26 i/o
B Soundcard: ECHO MIA MIDI
Microphones - Shure and Rode, various
Outboard - TLAudio, SPL, Focusrite, AMEK
Monitors - JBL 6208, M-Audio AV40
Lazy rig - AMT P1, M1 cab sim directly into the TLA pre (just like in this video)
Power amp - EHX44Magnum
Cab - Laney KLIPP 4x12 + Celestion Greenback, Marshall Valvestate zombie superlight combo frame without amp + 1x12 Celestion G12T-75
"What...?"-class secret weepons - KORG G1, KORG AX3000G
"WTF?!?"-class secret weepon - C64 8-bit computer
Keyboards - M-Audio, Ensoniq
Drums - Toontrack
Guitars - Warmoth LPS, Hohner L75, Squier '51, Legend EVH ('90s Music Man Axis copy by Cort), Ibanez V70, Ibanez SDgr305

I still need to do this, don't I? Ah well, it's weekend back here now, who knows what could happen...

Re: Post a photo of what you use to record songs with, your "home studio"

This is my old analog setup. It's completely different now, but not yet photo-worthy. Perhaps soon.
