New Ibanez Genesis range

Re: New Ibanez Genesis range

Man im in love with the mahogany my next rg is going to have to be natural.not a big fan of pick guards or id dig that yellow one also

Re: New Ibanez Genesis range

There's likely to be a tad more beef and sustain in a square heel because of the greater contact area between the neck and the body than an AANJ. Can be a bit tricky hitting that 24th fret, especially if you've got smaller hands.

The old Edge trems are bulletproof :).

It isn't about contact area alone... but I swear AANJ sounds wimpy in an RG.

Fret access is no problem once you know how to position the left thumb. I've made it to the top without sweat on bodies with less open cutaways, and I am no Paul Gilbert, by any chance. I wouldn't call Edge trems "bulletproof", for I have seen their baseplates break. Breaking a german Floyd in half takes a train, hurhurhurhur... However, I still do hold the original Edge in high regard for its sound and smoothness, and I can sign my name under the opinion stating it is the best tremolo Ibanez ever (had) made.

One thing we seem to completely agree upon is the looks :beerchug:

I owned an RG (admittedly, a MIK one) for a long time and the high E string sounded quite weak/lacked sustain past the 12th fret. I couldn't work out why, even when I swapped the neck on the guitar, it made no difference. I do wonder sometimes if it was because of the AANJ or something else.

Sure, and the angled heel makes a difference too. I have an old 24 fret Roadstar with the neck joint at the 17th fret; the heel is bulky Fender style but the tone/feel of the guitar more than makes up for it.

Yes, they aren't technically as tough because of the cast alloy baseplate, but I don't think anyone would be breaking theirs in half unless they were on Mythbusters :).

Anyway, this is a home run for Ibanez, and the limited edition nature will keep the punters aching for more.

Re: New Ibanez Genesis range

Some really nice finishes in there for sure :)
Fingerboards are indeed nice on the Wizard 1 necks, but I'm another that can't get along with how thin they are, just feels really uncomfortable for extended periods of playing time :( Vastly prefer the Wizard 1 sevenstring necks, a bit more beef to the necks and significantly more comfortable for extended playing.

As for the original neck joint/heel and people concerned about fret access, don't be.
Due to the neck heel being angled, rather than straight like on most Fenders, 24 frets and the cutaway position/style, you still pretty easy high fret access, you'll just need to adjust your hand a bit differently if you're used to playing AANJ necks (or similarly contoured neck heels from other brands)

Re: New Ibanez Genesis range

I personally am quite excited they decided to go back to their flagships. NOW: if they'll just start making Roadstars, Destroyers (Phil Collen type) REAL Artists (not the crap they sell now) & Rocket Roll V's I'd start selling the old lady's used panties on ebay to buy some of those. :14:

A good friend is trying to sell a brand new RG350 (550 copy). I've played it and it plays just as good as the old 550's which I always really liked. For me they were always one trick ponies. Felt weird playing a RG when I was doing covers. Funk 49 just felt weird on an RG. LOL! For me they were shredders or straight up metal guitars.

I'm sure it's just a matter of time before you'll see them in the local Wal Centers.

I like the way you think :cool2:. Though when they do something utterly cool (like these RGs) it's highly limited edition and Japan only :grumpy:.

Looks like the Genesis Range is gonna get an Asia release: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/asia/news/f_products/2013/RGmij/index.html Only a few models available though, its a shame. I'd still pounce on either Red RG 550 or the Blue RG 570 though. I just hope they're not marketed as prestige models especially price-wise

I'm pretty stoked to see these outside of the Japan website chances are there was an overflow or the demand was just too high! Maybe it'll be easier to nab one second hand or actually get a new one shipped to the UK.

Yeah, the intermess imploded a bit when they were announced :).

This one kills me every time:

I was actually offered one from this series when they were just on the cusp of being released. If they had fatter necks I'd be gassing hard, not into Wizard. One day, maybe...

Re: New Ibanez Genesis range

Oh... I wish they reissued the Reb Beach cut out, rosewood neck etc model. Those were beaudeefullll

Re: New Ibanez Genesis range

RG's are a guilty pleasure for me. I don't own one but every time I pick one up, it feels nice, and dare I say feels right. And it doesn't have to be one of the higher priced models either. The RG421 is really cool. I like its simplicity. Wouldn't mind a 550 or a 920 though. I like what I see on these reissues.

HAhahahaha, sniff . . . same here.

Nearly bought this last week !

Re: New Ibanez Genesis range

Id love to have another 550 and id LOve to have the violet Chameleon 570! wow ! I had a reissue 550 in black that I loved, but had to sell it.

Re: New Ibanez Genesis range

Why only in Japan? That is SOOO stupid, I want that red RG550 SO BAD! Dangit, original edge trem too? This is stupid.

Got mine. It's from the Prestige range (hence that Prestige multi-tool you see there) but it's not priced as one (it costs less than some Premium models). No bag/case included, bring your own. It's available in selected countries as well, not just Japan.
