New Ibanez

The arm is $10. I'm not precisely saving up for my kid's inheritance.

Too many people jump on the "it has to be a Floyd" wagon... or pick a brand; Gotoh, Schaller, Kahler, and even Wilkinson, all have hundreds of fans claiming their favourite is the best system to have.

Since I will eventually have to put strings in the right way up for left-handed, wouldn't it be interesting if that was the trick to getting 100% stability all along?

At the moment it already has wooden blocks in place, if things don't work out, I can just have them put right back in again.
I don't think it has to be a Floyd, personally. And I agree that if you got the guitar such a deal (and it is a cool guitar, don't get me wrong), you're not going to drop a 200 dollar (at the very least) bridge in it. But other than the design, the lower end trems Ibanez use are not known for their quality. The metals they use just don't hold up over time. If a knife edge on a trem is not in tip-top condition, the functionality suffers greatly.

I had an RG570 from '98 with the "sought-after" Edge Trem that everyone raves about, but even that was starting to show its age, and not being as stable as I'm sure it once was. In the end I sold the guitar, but the knife-edges on Edges are replaceable if I wanted to keep the trem. I actually got a Shchaller trem for it before I sold it, and it was meh. The Edge at least looked way cooler, LOL. Anyways, my point is I don't think the knife edges are replaceable on the SLT1's without having to replace the whole baseplate, and good luck finding one, let alone horribly overpriced because they are rare-ish.

So yeah, if you ordered the arm, give it a try. But I suspect you're not going to be able to go all Van Halen on that trem.

Like I said, I hate to be negative, and I don't mean to come out as a Floyd snob. I honestly hate trems in general. But I'm trying to give a realisitc advise.

Almost all the best playing guitar I've ever had have been Ibanez. I'm personally a sucker for Wizard necks.

Congrats!
Those and Jackson. Though I also have a couple of Shecters that I love.
