Hey guys,

Please check out my new tune. I actually wrote it a few years back, but i haven't posted it to youtube before.
If you like it, please drop some likes on youtube.

I put together some scenery wallpapers that i thought would match the music:

I'm using a whole bunch of different guitars there - mainly superstrats and a les paul.

Guitars used I think are:
Ibanez RG2570 - Ibz/Dmz pickups
Kramer F6000 - old seymour duncans
Charvel 475 jackson active pickups
Heritage HC150 with antiquity humbuckers

Remixed version (you asked, and i listened):

Original version:

Thanks,
Alex

Listening now. Impressions, real-time...

Lead guitar is mixed pretty low relative to the rest of the mix. The bass guitar is actually louder than the lead.

Really nice tone and playing though. This is inspired stuff. Good technique, a nice vibrato... Good melodic phrasing, good timing.. Compelling, man. It's nice to hear this from you. Your melody rolls over the slightly-unexpected key modulation very fluidly.

I might have enjoyed a little rhythm guitar, but I suppose that's what the piano is for.

I do have to say again - the guitar is buried in this mix. Turn that up, man! You might be having trouble with the reverb chewing up your headroom during mastering. You could do with about half the 'verb you're using, which would free up the sonic space to let the guitar sing a little more prominently in this mix.

There's some very interesting, cool stuff going on with the lead guitar on this track. Unfortunately I can't hear it because it's the quietest thing in the mix.

The piano is waaaay too loud. Turn it down, bring the lead guitar up to the point where the piano used to be, and back off some of the reverb/delay - you won't need to have it so wet when it's up louder.

There's this weird scratchy, chukka-chukka thing going on in the background around 3/4 of the way through. Too soft to hear what it actually was... was that rhythm guitar? In any case it needs to go... too much "stuff" flying around in the mix at that point.

It might be nice to add a few half-time sections to the mix, or drop certain instruments in and out at points to provide a contrast and a flow.

Fix the mix first though... that's the biggest issue. There's solid performances in there, they just need to be mixed properly.

Wow thanks guys. That was a ton of constructive feedback. Appreciate it. Just for you: i'll make another mix, and see what you think. To be honest i was always aware of the guitar being buried on this track. I was so high on piano at the time, that i wanted to be up front even though it's playing rhythm. But i see what you mean though. It's as much an EQ and panning issue as much as levels.

Anyways, i'll try it out and upload another one.

Piano, by it's very nature, tends to eat up a lot of bandwidth.

Hey Guys! Did this REMIX tonight. I tried to do what you said. But sorry: the delay stays LOLs!!!!

What do ya think?

Re: New instrumental prog rock tune called "The Grand Eclipse"

I honestly liked the original and remixed versions about the same. I could clearly hear what the lead guitar was doing in the original, but I could hear a lot of the backing section too. Sometimes the lead backed off a bit is nice. The remixed version also sits very well, except I'd probably bring the lead guitar down only a few decibels.

Re: New instrumental prog rock tune called "The Grand Eclipse"

The remix is considerably more legible. I can hear the lead sooo much better. There are still some issues with the mix, but the improvement is noticeable.

I still love the melody and vibe in this track, man. And the spacial reverb / delay on the guitar doesn't bother me nearly as much now that I can hear it more clearly. The tone and phrasing almost has a Govan flavor to it.

I think the drums could probably come up a bit. They're a little buried now. The kick and snare more so than the overheads.

I think that taken as a whole it sounds damn good. The mix is OK and the creativity and playing are excellent.
