Hey, thanks a lot!

I think a lot of it is that most folks are not used to hearing clean Les Pauls, because most Les Paul guys I know usually play them crunchy or gainy.


I am completely baffled by the 4 knobs right now - I know what they do, but their interactional idiosyncrasies are a bit of a learning curve (one volume all the way down when in the middle position = no sound, not "just the other pickup")

Again, thank you, and I think Seths or '59s will go great with my playing style.

I agree, almost verbatim.

The bridge sounds "choked out" to me, I want a more open sound. Fuller, if I can get it.

I could do with more clarity from the neck, but I kind of like the neck - I like Telecaster neck pickups, I don't hear the "muddy" sound as muddy; I hear it as jazzy :laughing:

I think the muddy neck pickup mixes well with the bridge pickup (in general, not necessarily this specific set), and the middle pickup position (both on) is my favorite.


That's where I get the timbre I was searching for.

I will probably do Seths or 59s.

The 59's would be great. I think the Seths are a little too dark for a Les Paul, but this being an Epiphone they tend to be a tad brighter then Gibsons do, so it may be OK. I have a Tele that is sort of a Les Paul configuration. Mahogany body, flamed maple cap. I have a JazzN & a 59B. Works beautiful in this guitar.

I will have to press a little further then - I like the idea of low output pickups, but really I just want clarity and warmth.

Also, new high-gain demo added in OP and it sounds GRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEAT!

Keep in mind though the ebony fretboard of the Custom does add a nice amount of high-end snap.

Did you check out the high gain clip?

The guitar sounds really, well, at home doing that style. I don't play very much in that style, but man, the guitar sounds great doing it. Check out the sustain right after the first riff.

I had no idea guitars could sustain that long. I guess that's what I get for playing Stratocasters with tremolos, clean for so long.

Hell yeah man, I was blown away with that!

I've never had a guitar do that before.

And this wasn't amp feedback sustain - I was playing a 1x8" modeler at speaking volume.
