New Les Paul Day

Re: New Les Paul Day

Congrats Joe. Nice paula!

For my tastes, I think overall 2013/2014 got it right with the Traditional. No weight relief at all, fairly lightweight 2 piece bodies. Big r7/8 ish necks, better quality bridge and tuning machines than previous years, slightly less orange plastics, Nice tops f.you like soft flame, Orange drops, killer 59t pickups, and even 500k pots all around in 2014. Im biased of course, But barring the inlay, the 2014 its the closest production model ever to an r7/8. Though they are still not on the same level.

That said, I agree overall quality of tonewood is dropping in recent years. Both in the production lineup and the custom shop. Gotta be more choosey even in Rx models these days.

Re: New Les Paul Day

Yeah, I came close to buying a 2014 Traditional a couple years ago. It was really similar to this one, but had a thicker neck. The only problem with fat necks is it feels too different from the rest of my guitars. But I like the tone of fatter necks with Klusons.

Pretty soon, these 57 Classics will be pulled out. I'm thinking about installing the Whole Lotta Humbuckers in this one.

Re: New Les Paul Day

Nice axe! Is the Traditional the one I really want? Non weight relieved, standard materials, etc.?

Re: New Les Paul Day

The Traditional is pretty much like a 90's Standard. The Traditional Pro has splittable pickups and a satin back.

In recent years, Standards have a bunch of modern features like G Force Tuners, PCB electronics, splittable pickups, slim tapered asymetrical compound radius neck, brass or titanium nut, Neutrik input jack, etc.

I'm a sucker for flametops.

2 LP's
2 PRS McCartys
ES-335
Dearmond M-75
Urban acoustic

Plus, several I no longer own. Come to think of it, I've never owned a curly maple top.
