New Marshall Vintage Modern

I am seriously considering one of these, if another amp I have in the works doesn't pan out for any reason. They won't be available until January, but that's not all that far off now. I've been looking to see if anyone has them in stock early, but so far no luck.

Here's an article I found, with the prices listed in USD. The only thing I'm unsure of is whether these are "Street Prices", or "Retail" prices that are negotiable. I have a feeling they are pretty close to bottom line prices, because they really aren't that expensive. Here is an exerpt from what I found on prices, then the link to the page.

"All the amps from the Vintage Modern serie will be available worldwide in January 2007, and the approximate prices will be $1420 for model 2466, $1270 for model 2266, $1500 for model 2266C and $930 for 425 cabinets."

Re: New Marshall Vintage Modern

You need to check out the Traynor YCS-100 before you buy anything else.

Re: New Marshall Vintage Modern

That's the one I'd be interested in , the 2266. Basically $1200 is the same price as the DSL and TSL, and I have a feeling these will certainly be better than the TSL's. The DSL is actually a pretty good amp, so if this improves on that, it's a huge plus.

I wonder how the cleans will REALLY sound, and if you set it up for clean and then hit that footswitch, how much dirt will you REALLY get. I'm anxious to try them out. I guess the good thing is that GC will more than likely get some of, if no the first shipments.

Re: New Marshall Vintage Modern

I'd be all over the 50w VMs if I actually had a place where I could get some volume on one.

This is the first time I've been truly excited about a Marshall since they reissued the 1987(x) way back when :bigthumb:

Re: New Marshall Vintage Modern

When I was at GC today for a little bit, I walked around carefully looking to see if they had any in early. No luck. I plan on trying it out.

Re: New Marshall Vintage Modern

If it wasn't for the fact that I'm saving money for a Tele project, I'd be all over the 2266! I reckon it's the perfect partner for my Rid Duplexer Special pedal!

Re: New Marshall Vintage Modern

With these prices i'd rather get a splawn competition. And there are many other amps in this price range which i'm sure would be a better buy, unless they are retail prices.

Re: New Marshall Vintage Modern

Just spotted an add for the new VM's in UK Guitarist magazine - the 2266 is just a few £££ more than a Peavey Valveking!!!!!!

Re: New Marshall Vintage Modern

i prefer the JVM...

Re: New Marshall Vintage Modern

I want to play the JMV also before I make any decisions. However, 4 channels, 3 modes each...may be a bit much for an old fart like me to run. However, if it sounds anywhere as good as the VM....

Re: New Marshall Vintage Modern

They sound like internally jumped plexis, with a switch to switch the configuration of the first preamp tubes from parallel to serial (i.e. 'extra stage').

The price is awefully tempting, considering most booteek versions of the same thing cost twice as much. Of course, the booteek versions use better parts (e.g. SoZo caps, better transformers) and use turret/eyelet boards instead of PCBs, so they are easy to modify and fix.

Re: New Marshall Vintage Modern

The company I work for now has Guitar Center as an affiliate, and now me and two co workers can buy at pro deals at GC. I'm thinking of buying one of those 2 new Marshalls, and playing it for a few months, then selling it for a little more than I paid. That way, I can have fun owning it for awhile......or if I really like it, just keep it. I think the price will be about 35% off....plus tax.

Re: New Marshall Vintage Modern

We hate you Joe !!!!!!!!!! just kidding. I was reading over on the Doug Aldrich forum that he digs them and was asked by Marshall to demo them. I PMed him and he said they sound great and will be bringing them on the road with whitesnake along with his suhr/bradshaw modded marshall and cameron modded marshall. i guess if the new marshall is in that ball park of modded marshalls it should be a big hit.

Re: New Marshall Vintage Modern

It looks like it'll be a worthy amp. The problem with me is I tend to keep things I like, rather than selling them, like I told myself I would.

Shred dog, what did Suhr do to your Roccaforte head? You're another guy who doesn't really NEED this new Marshall, but is willing to give it a spin for awhile.

Re: New Marshall Vintage Modern

He originally just changed the volume control so it was more useable, and smoothed it out a little. but he has it now because i was having a problem with it (power tranny)and while he has it i'm having him mod it like the amp he made for Doug Aldrich, kinda like his SE model od100. it should be a screamer !!
