New Mesa Express Series

New issues of Guitar One arrived this week (Mustaine on the cover).

They did a review of both the 5:25 and the 5:50. But the real treat is the video demonstrations of both. You can see them on the GuitarOne site since they stopped shipping the disc this month.

Site here. http://www.guitarworld.com/guitarone
Scroll down and click on gear. It's the 4th video down.

I was completely intrigued and interested when they debuted them. I poured over the spec sheets, and didn't find anything that turned me off. I read a review or two, but really wanted to HEAR them, and also witness the power switch. These videos were like a one-two punch. I'm in love, lol.

The 5w mode seems completely functional for practice applications. Now my dilemna is that I want both of them. >< Time to save some money!

Anyways, enough of my rambling. I know some of you were looking for info/reviews on these amps, so thought I would share.

This is a pretty impressive amp. I especially liked the clean channel on the 5:50, which is the only reason I'd go with that over the 5:25. It just gives a fuller blues tone. Otherwise, I think 25 watts would be more than enough for me.

Very cool! Thanks for posting, Truant.

I saw/heard them in Frankfurt, and they seem to be everything you'd expect. They're very nice amps.

Re: New Mesa Express Series

I have an F-30 combo that I really like, and I really want to try the 5:50 head. I imagine it is going to be a killer amp.

One thing that strikes me about the Guitar One video is that the guy is playing the 5:50 with the "blues/burn" channel's Master Volume control set on almost 0 (maybe he is at 0.5). On the F30 and F50 there is no way you are going to get good tone unless you turn it up to AT LEAST 9 or 10pm.

Hmmm. Hes playing the 5:25 with the Masters on 1. That's pretty low, too. So, all the crunch he is got was apparently from the preamp.

Yeah, is seems like a really cool amp...mesa never fails to impress. I was pretty excited to see a review of it in the new G1, but i was also pretty pissed that they stoped giving us the cd's. That was my favorite part. The VG strat also looks pretty cool.

The website has all of the CD's content and it can be downloaded as MP3 and Quicktime video files.
