New MIM Charvels??

Re: New MIM Charvels??

Wasn't there a thread about a Charvel with a broken truss rod not too long ago, though?
One thing to realize... There's thousands if not millions of guitars of any given brand out in the world today and defects are a statistical reality for every single company. People don't always use the same usernames on different forums, so you may see the same story over and over thinking it's a different case each time. People that complain are loud, while people that love the product are too busy enjoying the product to say anything.

Kind of the way the Intarwebnetz works.

I used to work for GC and another big a Fender dealer. In all my experience with hundreds of their guitars the only major problem I can think of was this one Lite Ash Strat with a busted truss rod. My point being is that Fender had always been really good at keeping the bad stuff from leaving the factory.

Re: New MIM Charvels??

Does EVH own a patent on the wheel that adjusts the truss rod on those EVH guitars? The MIM Charvels have those truss rods that adjust at the heel instead of having a spot near the nut. That's ridiculous for the price. I can get a cheap Squier that adjusts without taking the neck off.:wrf:

No he doesn't. Ernie Ball Music Man put them on the EVH model, and he's had them on his guitars since. A few other companies use it too, I don't know why more don't

Actually, I believe that's a Gotoh invention.

The reason it's fantastic is that there doesn't have to be any sort of compromises on guitars with Floyd Roses due to the nut and the retainer bar. A headstock adjustment requires either a notched nut (which makes the center of the nut somewhat thin) or, if the neck is designed for it, the truss rod is moved a bit towards the back of the neck so the hole is easier to access, which could cause weakness in the headstock joint.

If Warmoth would figure out a way of doing that truss rod design with a standard Strat or Tele heel that would be amazing. I haven't measured to see if there's room.

more are starting too. Charvel is using them now and I think its on some Jackson models too. Suprisingly, even the lower priced ones..

Yep! Squeaky wheel gets the most grease.. Also, some one may blame something on the manufacturer that was the shipper or dealer's fault. I once recd a Taylor electric guitar with a broken switch. It most likely happened during shipping.. Some people, prob would have posted online that Taylor shipped em a bad guitar or that the brand is blah blah..

Re: New MIM Charvels??

You mean my Charvel? No it was not broken. It just needed more turns and I was too scared to turn it further. But I actually gave it another 3/4 turn and it is 99% dead straight now.

Great to hear that you've worked it out.

Yeah, glad you got it squared away! Duh, I've read this thread every time something has been added but I completely missed Jolly's entry about loving his MIM ones. Thanks for the input JJ! I think my only real squabble with the recessed trems is if wanted to add a dtuna

You can block the trems, technically, or use a Trem-Ol-No. I do agree, I would rather have no recess.

Add one.

Re: New MIM Charvels??

I own one USA and two MIM Charvels. I love them all equally. I don't know why people trip over the recessed tremolo with the MIM's. My USA isn't recessed, but I can pull back on it just as much as the MIM ones that are. The necks all play the same to me.
