New MXR EVH pedal

Seems interesting! I do wonder if it's a distortion pedal or a dedicated preamp. If it's a pedal meant in front of a clean amp, my interest drops to 0, pretty much. But if it's a preamp... hmmm!!!

I have a couple Wampler distortion boxes, including a Pinnacle Deluxe, that sounds so much better thru the loop versus thru the front of my amp. So I dont see why this pedal couldnt be run the same way.

Cant hurt to try it both ways

If they are trying to sell a more "modern" high-gain distortion, why don't they have someone play more modern riffs?

It's been a long time since EVH has been described as modern

I don't get it

I agree.**

For the past 40+ years (ever since transtube), we have heard solid state gain circuits and they never sounded as good as tube amps.

Then the past few years we got digital modeling pedals which (to my ears) much closer than solid state pedals ever were, but they have their own peculiarities like latency.

If this is just another solid state amp in a box, this concept is obsolete.

** Unless they came up with new components (like a mini tube) that offers the same dynamics and response of a tube circuit.

I don’t understand the tiny boost button. Why not use a regular foot switch? Same for the modulation button on my Carbon Copy.

Its far from obsolete. A lot of guys still play amps and many people still use pedals with their modelers
