New /Old Double Cut day

so what is it? and whats the switch do?

Custom made by a builder out of Pennsylvania. 50's Double Cut Jr. in TV Yellow.
African Mahogany neck & body, set neck, baseball bat neck but easy to play.
Fretboard is Pao Ferro. I forget the make of the P-90.
7 lbs and rings like a bell.
The mini toggle isn't a coil tap it adds top end shimmer when engaged.
CTS pots, Gibson parts.
Intonation is perfect.

if there is a pic or attachment, it wont allow edits. happened a few updates ago and its a drag

Based on the headstock shape, which is like mine, it looks to be a Precision Guitar Kits build.

Yep that looks to be similar from what i can see.
River Relics is the outfit that did mine they do some really good aging techniques.
Looks like mine is a 1958' model.

Nice fat neck then. I love that profile.
Kent makes a good P90. Didn't know he offered a tapped model.
Are you positive LLL is correct and the switch is a coil tap, or might it be a bass cut?
Have you looked inside?

I havent played the guitar thru a 100 watt Marshall yet but last night i played thru the Rockman and this morning i found this link.
My P-90 has solid Alnico V magnet poles no screws. Almost every P-90 i was finding has screws instead of solid poles.
It took a while to find the right ling which is find by me because its more unique.
I ordered a Lindy Fralin .100 P-90 shim as thats the size i need for correct pup height.

No screws, and no bar magnets. There are a few like that out there - I have a Sentell with the same configuration.
A little bit tighter in the lows, and a faster attack than traditional P90s. Perhaps a bit more chime too, I think.
They read a narrower section of string thanks to a more focused magnetic field.

I've also seen a P90 with iron slugs and the usual two magnets underneath.
Don't remember who made that one.

Kinda cool guitar, but it does look like a kit, and it looks like a very poor "relic" job to me...not at all like the natural wear that you would see from actual use.

What kind of P-90 is it that has a coil tap?

One of the best sounding / playing axes ive had in 45 years and i love the aesthetics.

I have a tapped Lollar P90 in my PGK SG Jr. a fantastic pickup. 10k wind full and tapped for a vintage output. Had it custom wound. My LP Jr DC will also have a Lollar but not tapped.

How does it add top end shimmer, if I may ask?

And, while it isn't a tap....boy that sure makes it easy to order a Custom Shop P-90 that can be tapped from hot to vintage! Just sayin'....think about it.
