New OT

Last night, put in a TO20 OT (Kind of a direct fit Deluxe Reverb Transformer) in my newest acquisition - My Princeton Reissure. Took me a while as I have a tag board inside, so only tried out a few minutes.

Not sure I'm digging it - Bass is tight, but that cabinet rattle Princetons seem to have is well - as expected significantly less. Starting to wonder if one of the things I like about Blackface Fenders is the flabby bass - other Fender BF is an Vibrolux.

Off to shake it down some more....

Re: New OT

Its a bigger OT - kind of a Deluxe Reverb sized transformer that fits the stock mounting bolts. Was designed by Allen Amplification/BillM Audio and wound by Heyboyer.

Definitely a lot tighter on the bass department, felt a lot different running through my buffered pedalboard.

Re: New OT

Oooh yeah. Heyboer makes good stuff. I've used them on a few builds. I could see that bigger than stock iron would tighten up the bass, especially if the OT was wound to be a little more Hi-Fi. Some of the older Mesa amps have a slightly UNDERsized OT, which is part of the reason why they have that "sag" and "bark" and more "liquid" feel.

Re: New OT

I bought the bigger brother to that, the T040, for my Vibrolux Reverb and I've been thrilled about it, but that's because it gave me more punch, cleaner headroom and I disliked the weak, loose lowend so I liked that it tightened to something that was (IMHO) far more usable. Rattling of any kind when I'm playing irks the crap out of me, whether it's tubes or the cabinet it drives me nuts.
