New Peavey 6505 cheaper than Fender Hot Rod deluxe at MF.

I'm an Amp Tech Part time...

The Fender Hot Rod deluxe is made in Mexico and I see about 3 a week in the shop.

I would go with a Traynor YCV40 before a deluxe. How many problems do you see with those. and can u comment on chinese peaveys and 5150s/6505s?

minor correction: CLOSED back not open.

folks have been waiting since the winter NAMM to check out this 112, and availability dates keep getting bumped. Last I heard was October for my store. Knowing them they probably have a couple of em though, I just haven't visited in a while. They always get the new hotness first.

in all the pics I've seen of this 6505 112, there is a "Designed and Built in USA" badge right on the front with HP's sig. But, by all reports from people who've talked to "their Peavey guy" this amp will actually be put together in China. That doesn't bother me as much as the fact that this is the first in the line without James Brown's tweaks.

another look-forward-to is that this model will come with a warmer stock bias ie it's supposed to be more correctly biased for the tubes that are in it. A HUGE difference if true, and I suspect is the reason why most people who say they don't care for 5150s/6505s don't like the 5150s/6505s they try. An improperly biased massive gain amp and/or one with poor tubes that pull the mids in weird directions or attenuates certain frequencies or make for a lot of crossover distortion will sound harsh, honky, or just bad, and lots of great stock amps do, and need tubes and a bias right off the bat. If those same turned-off folks tried mine they would love the amp. Any lover of the Marshall sound would find haven in its crunch mode.

an attenuator is not needed with any 6505 for stadium crunch or liquid leads; they can be had at any volume. If you like the sound of an opened-up power section and overdriven speakers *more* than a harmonically distorted preamp, there are better avenues.

I'm sure I'll have one of these - don't remember about external cabs but it's gotta have that option, right?
