New Pedal Day!

Picked up a used Lovepedal Les Lius and it arrived yesterday night! I had been looking at one as I LOVE the sound of my overdriven 5E3, however it's just out of control loud when I do, and the attenuator is good, but creates limitations of it's own. So, I was after something to get that tone except with my larger amps.

Had been watching them on ebay and I ended up finding a dude in Edmonton who had one on Kijiji. We made a deal and he sold it to me for $150 shipped. This was good because most of the USA sellers on ebay refuse to ship to Canada.

In terms of gain, the LL is very close to my Barber 1/2 Gainer. They're definitely in the same ballpark. If I had to rate the difference, the 1/2 Gainer is more of a "Blackface" overdrive tone, whereas the LL is a "tweed" OD tone. It does make me wonder if I opened up my 1/2 Gainer and played with the presence and bass controls if I could get the two pedals sounding nearly identical.

So far, I'm LOVING the Twin setting on the LL! Sounds very open with a good grind and chime quality. I sort of wondered, but now know for sure - the LL is a fixed gain pedal. The knob on the left is just volume, and the right just controls the amount of EXTRA gain you want to add when you engage the stack button.

The LL takes the place of the Barber Direct Drive that I had on the board. The DD is a great pedal, just not the flavor of OD that I like. Probably sending that one to Kijiji soon.

Re: New Pedal Day!

It's a great sounding pedal, but versatile it is not. If you like to be able to just plug in and go, this is a great pedal due to its simplicity. If you're a knob tweaker and like to be able to custom dial everything in, you will get frustrated with this.

And that's FINE because this pedal is designed to go after some very specific sounds. As an owner of a 5E3 amp, I can tell you the LL is as close as you're going to get in a pedal form to that tweed amp overdrive sound.

I just picked up a used one also the gold tone one, only played at low volume with the amp hardly breaking up. So far so good, does Neil young thing and the stones good. Have to see if its better then my blues deluxe own drive channel, there similar the LL is smoother on the top end and a little more tweeder sound:)

I've been using this pedal since I got it. It's pretty much an "always on" pedal that I never turn off. Loving the tone and drive quality on this one.
