New pedalboard done...

well yesterday my Line 6 MM4 came after a month of waiting for it so i got to finish my new pedalboard.

Big thanks to Ron at Brand eX Amps for building the custom board for me from aluminum diamondplate which is bent and welded on the corners with a center support hidden inside. it's then mounted on a wooden base which is carpeted on the bottom with 4 rubber feet. he built the board to my specs... 29 1/2" wide, 15" deep, 1" height in the front and 3" height in the rear.

i wired everything right through the board so hardly any wires are showing. i also hard wired 3 switchcraft jacks to the back for the send, return and out to the front of the amp. it's all powered by a 1 spot which is wired up through the bottom of the board so it's also hidden....nice and simple. however for some reason the 1 spot wouldn't power the whammy even with the adaptor plug so that has it's own power cable also running up through the bottom neat and hidden.

i didn't plan on mounting the recto footswitch on it but i got lucky and it fit pretty nice right at the top. now i just need a right angle 7 din plug so i can move it down a bit more and mount it (it's just sitting there for now).

oh and it is NOT heavier than wood, it's actually lighter than most all wood boards since the aluminum is thin yet strong due to the diamonds. i think the two line 6 pedals may weigh more than the board itself.

anyway, here it is...

i'm real happy with it and now i just need to spend more time setting the DL4 and MM4 since they are both new to me.

the signal chain goes...

Guitar...TU-2...Morley Tremonti wah...Whammy...Boss OC-2...Line 6 MM4...front of amp...

in the FX loop is the Line 6 DL4....

Sweet...diamondplate is so bad ass....do you have a case to carry it in?

Re: New pedalboard done...

Nice, Mike. Very clean. Not surprised about the Whammy. That thing is finicky and needs a dedicated supply, and I believe the power plug is opposite others, meaning tip positive.

I'm at the point where I don't need a pedalboard anymore....lol.

Re: New pedalboard done...

msawitzke: thanks!! i always liked diamondplate. the whole trunk floor of my show car is covered in a custom cut sheet of it hehehe. plus my recto has it so i thought it would be a good match. as for a case, i didn't bother looking into one yet since i'm not gigging as of now. however finding one or having one made shouldn't be a problem when that time comes.

Erik: thanks!! i was a bit pissed about the whammy since the 1 spot guys sell a special plug for it that i got but it still didnt work. oh well, no biggie, so i have 2 plugs instead of one, not a big deal. i think i'll shoot them an e-mail and see if they have any ideas.

*edit* i was just checking the 1 spot/visual sounds site and i think i may have bought the wrong plug for the whammy...DOH. they have a "reverse polarity converter" would that be the one i need?

It looks cool Mike. How are you digging the MM4? I thought mine sounded a little thin. I like the DL4, but just wasn't feeling the MM4.

Re: New pedalboard done...

BBent: thanks. i haven't spent much time with the new board to be honest. i still need to tweek the phaser setting since that and the flange are the main reasons i got it. i was using a MXR EVH that i liked but i wanted less pedals. now if i can get the mm4 to sound even similar to the EVH phaser i'll be happy. i think i need to read that manual to see what all the extra knobs do LOL...since i'm used to one knob on a phaser.

Yup, that might be the one. Is it a typical Boss type barrel or is it the 1/8" type?

Also, make sure that the one spot adapter can handle all of those pedals, including the Whammy. Gotta make sure it has a higher milliamp rating than the total draw of all the pedals. I can guarantee those Line6 units suck some power. At 1700mA rating though, it shouldn't be a problem.

Since I use a crybaby and boost (or OD) out front and soon just a reverb in the effects loop, I use an adapeor on whatever sits in the loop only now. The current draw from my crybaby and boost is so low a battery lasts for months.

if the whammy is oposite than the boss plugs, then yes. you could open the adaptor (or the plug, dont know how you power it) and reverse the +/- wires going to the whammy.
the converter works too though.

Re: New pedalboard done...

Looks good! I'd probably put the footswitch in front, as I'd be afraid of bumping the other pedals when I wanted to switch channels on the amp, but that's just a preference thing :). Killer board.

Re: New pedalboard done...

Erik: i think i need the converter one, that should solve it.

fretfire: thank you! well i never planned on putting the pedal on the board. it was just dumb luck that it fit there LOL. so it's going there to fill space hahaha. no problem hitting the buttons, however that thing is on CH3 95% of the time anyway lol. oh and i "over step" the board to hit them and use my heel so there is no worry of hitting the other pedals. a bit odd but it works fine.

Re: New pedalboard done...

That is beautiful! I love diamond plate...

...I have a similar problem with my Cry Baby - the plug from Godlyke system fits, but falls out at the worst moment. Fortunately the Cry Baby passes the signal through when it drops power... but when you turn it on - everything goes out.

How did you mount the pedals to the diamond plate?

Re: New pedalboard done...

RW: thanks!!! no way to just use a small bit of electrical tape to hold the plug in on yours?? i used some heavy duty velcro to hold the pedals on. i think i could nearly lift the board by one of the pedals before it lets go LOL.

Well the Godlyke system includes a number of different plugs, I though I might try one that has large diameter shaft.

Interesting that the Velcro worked. I would have thought that the raised dimples would have affected the adhesive - I guess not. Good deal.

Re: New pedalboard done...

yeah, the velcro worked like a charm, i used a heat gun to warm it up and form it to the board also and it grabs real strong. it was some heavy duty stuff that i have no idea where it came from, it was just in my shop LOL.

Re: New pedalboard done...

Nice board! Those line 6s look like beasts to fit anywhere . . . how wide are they?

Re: New pedalboard done...

Looks great as usual. You'll have fun with those L6's, especially if you mix the two with some otherworldly sounds. The Echoplex sounds are some of my favorites.

With reverse polarity plugs, can't you just chop the cable, and reverse the leads, then solder and tape them? The Line 6 cables are reversed. Since Voodoo Lab only gives you 1 Line 6 cable with their PPII, did you get another one from them?

Re: New pedalboard done...

GuitarStv: thanks! they are 10" wide.

GJ: thanks for the kind words, i'm lovin' it so far. i've been mostly messing with the phaser, the jet flange, the other flange and some different delay sounds since that's what i use most. however i did o through each setting and there are some cool sounds to be had for sure! i'm glad i went with these two pedals to replace several others.

as for the reverse polarity thing...well i went with visual sounds 1 spot to power it all and got 3 of the line 6 plug adaptors from them thinking one would work for the whammy but it doesn't. so i am just using the factory whammy power plug, no big deal, two plugs isn't that bad to deal with.

falloutboyroXXX: lol, yeah, lots of diamondplate.

Re: New pedalboard done...

Wow, one of the cleanest and best looking pedal boards I've seen. Of course that comes as no surprise, your builds are always top notch. :bigok:

I'd be interested in your impressions of the MM4 after you've had it a while and have dialed it in. I was very close to getting an FM4 but I'm always disappointed in Line 6 stuff after the initial coolness factor wears off. (minus the delays, Echo Park is a staple in my rig)

Re: New pedalboard done...

mmm, yummy! you may want the DL4 up front to have access to the tap tempo- I use mine all the time. also, a trick with the DL4 is to use it in non- true bypass mode, so the delays trail off when you shut it off.
