New pedals that excite you

Re: New pedals that excite you

I went on a pedal kick this year - I don't have anything that I had ten months ago. I've been able to acquire some amazing pedals. I absolutely love what Strymon's doing. I have their El Capistan, I'll be getting a Blue Sky soon, and I've played around with the Timeline. Just fantastic stuff.

I also have a love affair with Basic Audio. John Lyons makes some INCREDIBLE fuzz pedals. I've got his Foxey Lady (Foxey Lady clone with an added mids knob) and his Scarab Deluxe (SI tonebender MKIII clone with a fat knob and external bias control). Both of these pedals are nothing short of works of sonic art - and they look great inside and out too.

The last of my favorite brands is Diamond. I have the Memory Lane Jr, and it's just an incredible delay pedal. It gets me all the analog tones I crave with digital functionality - footswitchable modulation, tap tempo, and tap divide. I love it, and would not hesitate to sample any of Diamond's other offerings.

I love all of my pedals, but these are the brands that stand out the most to me as having incredible quality across the board. I'd like to throw out a special mention to Drybell. While they only have one pedal currently - the Vibe Machine - it's an amazing piece of technology. They managed to fit the classic Univibe into an MXR sized pedal, with all of the features of the original. They even managed to add a few. At $325 shipped from Croatia, it's not cheap, but it's worth every penny.

Meh, the only thing I was really excited about (and then forgot about) was the Supa-Puss.

I've recently aquired a Green Rhino, and I really, really like it. Everything I've got serves it's purpose, HM-2, MXR OD, Rhino, Turbo Rat, DD-3, TR-2, I haven't found anything that beats it, but I could live without any of it.

I think I'm gonna borrow my buddy's roto-vibe again, that thing was fun. I don't have a muff anymore, I *might* get another sometime, I still haven't replaced my wah, and maybe I could fool around with a legit fuzz, but meh, I'm pretty content with what I've got for the usual stuff I do.

My favorite pedal is my Ibanez Bi-Mode Chorus.

Re: New pedals that excite you

Just picked up a Berringer Reverb Machine for a pedal board that I keep at my Church. Didn't expect much just something passable but got something purty cool with this one. Had $50 on a rebate debit Card from AT&T that was a PITA to get all the $ off of and found this thing at Amazon for $49.99 so I said what the heck and took a chance. Figured if it sounded like :fart::smack: it was no big loss.
Sounds not just good but GREAT through the loop of my Jet City JCA22H I run at Church and here is the real shocker it is QUIET! Surprised the heck out of me at the price point on just how good this thing sounds!

Agree with you on the Strymon stuff it's amazing. I'm looking hard at both a Blue Sky and EL Capistan.
On the verb have you heard the new Supernatural from Hardwire?? The demos sound amazing and it may give the Blue Sky a run at 1/2 the price.

I've heard a lot about it, but I'm not nearly as interested. One of my favorite parts of the Blue Sky is the built in favorite switch. I love both plate reverb and spring reverb, and for me, the ability to footswitch between them instantaneously is indispensable

Man, I really want to give a shot at the Strymon Lex Rotary. I freakin love my El Capistan and I haven't even mastered all of it's modes of operation yet! Wish their prices were about 33% cheaper though.

Re: New pedals that excite you

Oh yeah!! Seriously wondering if these are as good as they claim they are...?? If so, WANT!!

Well, Ola can make ANYTHING sound good, so it's hard to say.

If they had a box that had the entire lineup of Legend Pedals for $400ish I'd be sorely tempted.

Re: New pedals that excite you

I see three trends lately that have me excited:

1) Everybody and their dog has a thick/spluttery fuzz, now I'm seeing a number of other circuits that are brighter, more overdrive-ish and controllable.

2) Assorted mod pedals with proper tap-tempo controls and a good analog sound. I'm hoping this permeates beyond trem and phase to all sorts of LFO-controlled units.

3) Serious delay pedals. Once the fad has run it's course, some classic designs have emerged, and the majority of players who don't really use delay are trying to sell theirs I will move in for the kill.

------

As far as specific units go, I'm excited by the Whirlwind phase 90 and the Catalinbread Pareidolia... both classic tones I've always lusted after but never been able to hunt down in my time.

Also maybe the Toadworks Barracuda and Skreddy Lunar Module, but those aren't particularly new.

I agree, Diamond makes some high quality stuff. I picked up a Diamond Tremolo a few months back, thinking it would come out for the occasional Floyd song. It really surprised me with its versatility, and I've been finding uses for it in every song.

For distortion I usually just crank the gain on my Blues Jr. (No effects loop...) When I want to go beyond the basic Fender tone, I put the SD Twin Tube Classic out in front. Really helps drive signal into other pedals in the chain. I'm not a big fan of solid state or digital distortion.

Re: New pedals that excite you

the only pedal i am curious about is the ethos with the built in poweramp ... a pedal and a small cab with a neo speaker or two and i'd be SET ... talk about a lightweight solution ... the price is daunting but the wait time is even worse

Re: New pedals that excite you

no guitar pedals really, I cant imagine using em for recording so I dont wanna use em live either then

tc voicelive2 = not sure if good on recordings but ya been excited about it for 2 years, not sure if it is all that tho

Now that does look good... It's like an updated dl4 it seems in many ways. I kinda wanted the flashback, but I figure if going digital and modeling delay, then I may as well get more features... This answers that! I'm going to snag a simple analog to mess with first and wait for any bugs and all to get worked out.

Re: New pedals that excite you

Also, XTS(Xact Tone Solutions) is making some great dirt pedals that are kinda under the radar right now. Ive had the chance to play the precision, and tejas boost... both incredibly impressiive. Great amp like tone and response.
