New Pickup for my Les Paul!

I wanted my favorite aftermarket pick-up, the DiMarzio Dominion in my best playing and feeling guitar, my black les paul. I really didn't want to mess with the looks though, because except for the creme rings,switch tip and poker chip (that I will swap with black ones) I really enjoy the knobs and the chrome covers with the black guitar. But the DM pickup has both sides with hex screws. well damn....... I tried it anyway, I'm very pleased with the outcome! The polepieces don't line up perfectly, but well enough for me and you have to take a pretty close look. I actually really dig it the looks of the hex screws poking through the cover.

It took quite a bit of brightness of this pickup, but it might not be only the cover, but more that I put in in a pretty dark sounding mahogany guitar. Quick fix is to just dial the EQ on the amp a little different, and damn... it sounds amazing again! It has a lot of bite, very tight, nice pronounced mids.

Now I only need to order the black plastics, and this is going to be literally perfect. It plays so well!

It's probably not just the covers that affected your high end. I have a Dean Hardtail with gold hardware. Put a set of double black Dimarzio's with double rows of hex poles in the guitar. Didn't like the look. Covered them with solid gold covers (no holes). Of course, lost the ability to adjust the individual poles, but the difference was pretty subtle.

Of course there will be that update! But I might wait and order these parts with my new amp, which I still have to save up a bit first.

true... I think its mostly that its the first time I put the pickup into a mahogany les paul, it used to be in a basswood powerstrat and a agathis single cut, I'm assuming the guitar is just darker

well, you can always order the pickup with different spacing, it is g or f spaced?, and pick up a 12 holes cover so you get back the adjustability and some of the high end lost with the cover

true, but I think I'm fine with this. It's not perfect, but close enough. I will swap the plastics and the guitar is going to be perfect for me. And I haven't found this pickup in any other spacing but F spacing, which this one is. A bit of EQ on the amp solved the problem.

The whole spacing deal is a bit stupid to me though...

Update!

The black plastics got in this morning and that means I can enjoy my day off even more. Switchtip and pokerchip are genuine gibson, the rings aren't because of concerns regarding measurements for gibsons being slightly different from epiphones (imperial system and stuff).

It looks so much better! Thanks a lot to Aceman for making this suggestion in the first place, it's just stunning.
After almost 3 years of playing now, and about 20 guitars that I owned, I can say that this is the best that I ever had and I'm not getting rid of it, ever. And since I can't get "Strutter" by Kiss out of my head lately, I'm going to rock out on her now.

As long as it sounds/plays/feels good(obviously!!!... )!

I can see how Marc Holcomb liked it enough to use it when he was with DiMarzio. when I picked up my bridge model, I believe mine came with a black cover with all 12 holes in it. I can check to see if I still have it somewhere on the workbench, if you'd be interested in that one. if so, just send a PM and I'll try to track it down if it's still there.

that'd be awesome! although mine is F Spaced, just to note that. If you can find it, I'd love to have it, just let me know in a PM what you'd want for it.

And I totally agree, the Dominion set is really awesome, not just for metal like lamb of god.
