New pickups for a Squire Fat Tele

So I picked up one of the closeout Squire Fat Tele's for a pretty good price and I want to modify it for five way switching like the American Hot Rod Fat Tele which is going to require a pickup-ectomy. I'm strongly inclined to put a nickle, 4-conductor 59 in the neck (assuming I can find such a beast) or maybe a Rio Grande Genuine Texas.

For the bridge I was thinking something along the lines of a Hot Lead, Muy Grande, Texas Special or maybe just a Vintage '54 Lead.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like a good plan. The Texas Tele pickup is a very nice pickup. IIRC, the Albert Collins sig guitar essentially has that pickup combo.

If it were mine, I'd go with a Jazz in the neck and a JD in the bridge. 59's sound good in a Tele but the low end will overpower most single coil bridge pickups.

Yeah, I actually prefer the Jazz in the neck to '59s. The tone of the Jazz is very similar to a '59 -- a little brighter and less a little less bass. I still stand with the recommendation of the Texas Tele pickup. It is wound a little hotter than the JD (also a great pickup!) and will probably match the humbucker better. The Duncan hot is hotter yet, but I have no experience with it. It is also available tapped for more vintage output.

I just tried the Jazz-n for the first time in my Squier Custom. I prefer it over the 59n I have in my other Tele.

Just visited my MPGS (Mom & Pop Guitar Shop) and they have a Hot Stack in stock. What do you guys thing of them? In split mode do they retain that tele twang?

Oops, it's not a Hot Stack it's the STK-T3b Vintage Stack Lead. But still, what do you guys think of it?
