New pickups for peavey wolfgang

Need new pickup suggestions for a peavey wolfgang.

Rig used:
Mesa Boogie Triaxis -> Mesa Boogie 50/50 - > Celestion v/30's.

The wolfgang is basswood with maple rock neck.

Looking for a really heavy sound.
Like, REALLY heavey sound.
Like Korn, Sevendust, Slipknot heavy.

Suggestions?

Man that's the kinda heavy I don't like, but different folks different strokes right? :)

You're probably going to use lower tunings a lot aren't you? I'd get an Invader for that kinda stuff, I'd normally say the Custom but it might not have enough output and a little too much treble for your taste. That Custom can sound pretty brutal though

For the neck a Distortion might fit the bill. I'm thinking about making my Flying V my lower tuning axe and I'm going to replace the Demon with a Distortion when I get a new guitar and my amps all arrive (hope I still have cash by then though :smack: ). I'm thinking thick, with lots of mids and no over-the-top highs, but I've never tried it

Re: New pickups for peavey wolfgang

air zone or breed in the bridge
and a air norton or breed neck model
these seem to work best in the wolfgang :)

Re: New pickups for peavey wolfgang

I used to own a Wolfgang standard hardtail and am considering another in the near future. My big compaint was that since the pickups are mounted to the body....there is little room for on the fly pickup height adjustment to dial in a sweet spot. You have to use shims or something to adjust height.

With that said....how do you know the replacement pickups will be at the right height, knowing you can't readily adjust the height.

Aside from this....I have heard the Dimarzio Air Zone and Air Norton are a great set for the Wolf. Also the Rio Grande BBQ/Texas is another.
Finally, the Duncan Custom shop EVH and AII neck.

.

according to most wolf players/owners the heights pre set from peavey are what
eddie van heflin considers the pups "sweet spot"
I like mine closer than those heights
:burnout:

If you are looking for "balls to the wall" heavy and you are not worried about cleans. The Invader might work well. What tuning are you playing in? The invader dosent like dropprd tunings that much.

Re: New pickups for peavey wolfgang

I'm using light tops and heavy bottoms.
10-52's.

Tunings will be Standard E and Droped-D only.
Perhaps Dropped-C.

I only said those bands up the top to accentuate the heaviness invloved.
Yes, I am worried about cleans, But I want a GOOD tone. A real heavy balls to the walls in your face full on ****ing rocking tone.

Re: New pickups for peavey wolfgang

If you decide to go with Dimarzio's I would not go with the Air Norton in the neck position. There was so much bass from that pickup it became droney. I've got an Air Classic neck model in mine and it's much better. I've also got the Air Zone in the bridge position.

Re: New pickups for peavey wolfgang

So Dimazio route - Air Classic and Air Zone.
Seymour Duncan route - C5/ Invader
EMG - 81/85...

WHAT about a FULL SHRED and an INVADER?

Re: New pickups for peavey wolfgang

Since you are using standard E or dropped D, the Invader will work really well.
