New pickups in my PRS SE Zach Myers

Re: New pickups in my PRS SE Zach Myers

The Custom 5 is pretty beefy sounding and the description of a '59 with higher output seems to be accurate. Very good pickup IMO. When I take this guitar to my luthier to get it set up properly I'll probably have him put chrome covers on both pickups more for looks than anything, but both sound awesome.

I know this thread is like 10 months old, but I have an SE Zach Myers that I'm planning on switching the pickups in. I'm trying to see what it would look like with chrome covers on it. Did you ever end up having your luthier put them on? If so, could you post a couple pictures? Thanks in advance if you do.

I swapped out the zebra Custom 5/Jazz pickups with a set of Chrome covered Custom 5/'59 pickups a while back. Looks, plays and sounds amazing!

Looks great! I'm actually planning on putting some Fishman Fluence Classics in mine, but the look with the chrome humbuckers was a concern since they only offer covered ones. Glad to see that it looks fantastic though!

Nice, looks great congrats! Though the zebra look was awesome too. Covered humbuckers have that classic mellow look to them.
Those stock PRS SE humbuckers are garbage, they should make a deal with Seymour Duncan and put in Duncan designed at least.
Then again that's the only flaw I could ever find in the SE line (Well that and the fact that they put a big sign on the headstock saying: 'look I'm cheap' with the huge SE letters), everything else is really good an consistent. Excellent quality for your money.
Had the Custom UOA5 in my SE Custom 22 for a while and it was great, really beefy but still I took it out in favor of a Gibson classic 57+ which had more bite because it's a dark scoopy sounding guitar by nature. The C5 over exaggerated that too much. Hope it settles in nicely in your guitar.

I have a semi hollow Ibanez Artcore Ive been wanting to do some pickup swaps on. Custom 5 sounds right up my alley now

Re: New pickups in my PRS SE Zach Myers

I've always liked nickel over chrome, mainly because it's a bit more subdued and the fact that nickel ages nicely and chrome doesn't always. That's just MY opinion for my guitars. I have 4 sets of humbuckers in guitars currently that are all double cream bobbins.... and every last one of them currently sports nickel covers. I have 16 total double cream Duncans and the only one (at least in my current way of thinking) that I wouldn't cover if installed is a late 70's JBD I'm saving for a guitar I'm slowly restoring.

I think yours looks fabulous and even though I love zebra's and double cream bobbins, I think covers make a beautiful guitar look even better. Yours with the green finish and shiny covers is a home run.

That is probably the nicest looking, most solid/best PRS SE Model I've actually laid hands on in person. Was super impressed with the one that my local MGR had as it felt substantial, played nice and just felt good in one's hands. Almost to the point of buying it. Really a lovely guitar.
