i'm looking at the new Fender Princton Reverb amps again.... man they look sweet for the bucks!!! I know a lot of people say buy an older one but i want the new one too!!!

Re: new Princton gas again

Now I'm gassing for the Hot Fudge w/Nuts head...those prices are fine and the specs are great.

The Hot fudge w/ Nuts is based on a early 60's chocolate Deluxe...I have a 62 chocolate Deluxe and it's a damn fine amp! I'd urge anybody looking at an 18 or 20 watt Marshall to look into a chocolate Deluxe or something like it...these amps will stomp an EL84 Marshall in the dirt in a HURRY!

Re: new Princton gas again

seriously great amps. that you can find used for a great deal...I played a old flame in person and its the ultimate blackface amp.

Re: new Princton gas again

Play a new ri, especially pushed into overdrive. That should kill the gas.

You've got me curious. If you mean it sounds bad pushed into overdrive, I'm wondering why after looking at the schematic. It's darn close to the AA1164 circuit except for a few extra diodes thrown in the power amp. Tubes, transformers, speaker and cab could all degrade the tone though...

Re: new Princton gas again

Although I'm overjoyed that Fender re-issued the Princeton. I don't think I'd drop just under $1000 for one. I'm not just being a PCB snob, But I think there are better options. The Allen amp, or a used silverface would suit me better. But I did sell my SF princeton So I could build my dream Custom Princeton.:naughty: It a AA1164 circuit with Deluxe transformers (around 25 watts) into a Alnico 12". My buddy made the chassis for me, I bought the turret board and wired it all up myself. And the cab was custom made for me from a guy on ebay. A pine cab. one inch taller than a std. princeton, Brown tolex, Oxblood grill, 12" speaker baffle.

Well, it wasn't the worst overdrive I've ever heard, but it wasn't particularly inspiring or as nice as Princetons I've heard. Like al the non-custom shop ris, corners will have been cut in all the areas you list...

Re: new Princton gas again

all i'd want is a cleanish signal out of it anyways... my old 65 Deluxe does not really have much OD anyways even on 8... clean clean clean... but a nice strat neck PU really sounds great thru them and the new ones!!! the Princton RI is the same for me...
