New Production Mullard EL84s?

It's time for new powertubes in my 18 watter. Has anyone tried out the new production Mullard el84's?

I loved the chime and breakup of the Ei's(luckly I had a good set)but they are nearly impossible to find now. The TADs were good, but didn't have the chime of the Ei's. JJ's seem to be well thought of and are easy to get. I'm really leary of GT's after past experiences. So what else is out there that can handle 415v on the plates and not fart out?

Re: New Production Mullard EL84s?

I've had JJ's in my top boost AC30 for a few years... seems like I can't kill 'em and they sound great. Smooth transistion from clean to break up, though sometimes I wish for soemthing that'd break up sooner.

FWIW I need a new pair of EL84's for the Pro Jr... was thinking of JJ's or maybe the EH tubes. Sovteks are ok... there's a more expensive type... 'N' or 'M' that has better headroom are tighter then the standard ones...

I dunno why, but I'm not a huge fan of Groove Tubes either. They work & seem to last but ehhh... something always leaves me 'wanting' for more.

I have not tried the new EL84's but Mike at Sovtec is doing real well with the new Mullard stuff IMO...I quite like what of it I have tried.
