New PRS Model: 305

Re: New PRS Model: 305

Nice guitar. Audio on the vid is kinda wack...keeps clipping the top off lots of the notes.

Re: New PRS Model: 305

Nice guitar,but it's like re-inventing the strat.

True...but the one thing PRS lacks in its line up pretty much is a strat like guitar. If they succeed with this one then they might draw over some new customers.

Re: New PRS Model: 305

nice that they went with 25.5" scale length - that'll help them nail the tone and feel closer

bummer that they did the unconventional pickups - aftermarkets are gonna be tough to get in there

bummer it don't come in white :D

i'd love to play one myself - we'll see if they have one at my local GC prs roadshow night later this month

Re: New PRS Model: 305

Attractive guitar, but seems sort of like New Coke. Fixing something that isn't broken.

Re: New PRS Model: 305

I don't think they're "fixing something that isn't broken," they're simply making their own Strat style guitar, just like everybody else has for the past 40 years or so.

It's got an alder body, maple neck, rosewood board, 3 single coils, 5 way blade, a trem, and a 25.5" scale. It's a Strat that sounds like a Strat. But it feels like and looks like a PRS. Brilliant.

Oh, and it comes in Seafoam green!

Re: New PRS Model: 305

I guess I could have phrased that differently. More like Crystal Pepsi. Adding something to the product line that doesn't really need to be there. Like I said, attractive guitar, just seems like they tried a bit too hard to be everything to everyone with this one.

Re: New PRS Model: 305

I tried one a few weeks ago at a local shop because the PRS rep was in and he had one with him, just like the one pictured.

Very stratty-sounding, of course. The pickups were pretty satisfying for a basic Strat sound and pretty quiet as well. Still felt like a PRS neck and control layout, of course. It lacked some of the low-end clang and beef from the neck pickup that you'd get from a real strat, and the treble seemed smoothed out overall. The bridge action felt smooth and stayed in tune well under use...didn't try divebombing it, though. ;)

It's a nice take on a Strat sound. It's be good for a PRS player who wants a strat sound but doesn't like playing Strats. :smoker:

Well, in an interview with Paul Reed Smith, he said that is exactly and precisely his intent for the strategic direction of the company. Be the next Fender, basically. Great guitars, cheap guitars, great amps, the whole deal.

Re: New PRS Model: 305

Im underwhelmed. I mean, Im seeing a PRS with a little longer neck and 3 single coils. Am I missing something??

that's PRS's entire business model

make a rounder wheel

they just make oddly-curved fancy-topped bird-inlayed compromises

very similar to what they're supposed to be but with Mr. Reedsmith's personal touch

which, honestly, his touch never mattered much to me. call me unimpressed but i'll take a normal Strat and a good ol Gibson before i ever take a PRS.
