New Puckups!HELP

I'm looking for pickups for my Epi Les paul std.
They should give me a real warm and vintage sound to play blues -> clean and dirty.
And the bridge pup should also give me enough output for zeppelin stuff.
Can you help me??
maybe a 59' in the neck or even gibson bb's?

Re: New Puckups!HELP

Here is what you need, the Seymour Duncan Alnico II pro neck and bridge. They are warm and vintage sounding. It can easily do the stuff you want. Blues, Zepplin, hard rock, cleans, no problem.

Welcome to the forum!!!

hey:I have a epi. les paul classic and I put a set of seth lovers(sh-55)in and I love them.Great led zep sound !

Re: New Puckups!HELP

Thing about Led Zepplin is that they played in the days before ultra-high gain pickups and amps, which means that anything from a '59 would be good - definately looking for a more "vintage" sound. From what I've heard, alnico 2s are decent.

Re: New Puckups!HELP

Just about any great Duncan humbuckers will sound killer in that Epi Les Paul and will turn it into a totally professionaly sounding guitar.

I've put a Jazz neck and JB bridge in several Epis now and that set always sounds great in an Epi Les Paul. Plus they both come with 4 conductor cable and if you replace a tone control with a push/pull tone pot that has a DP/DP switch built into it you can split the coils of both pickups and get very useable single coil sounds that will remind you of a Strat or Tele.

I'd recommend an A2 Pro or '59 in the bridge for sure. It really depends on your amp I think. If your amp is on the brighter/harsher side, I'd go with the A2. My amp is on the darker side so I went with the '59 in my SG and it has worked beautifully.

I never got any good Zepp tones until I bought a Strat, :smack: though I know that Page used Tele's and probably tons of different guitars that he also used when he was a session musician. Defiantly follow the advice of Lew and get a humbucker with four conductor cables so you can get a lot of different tones. I think the 59's might get you closer to that tone than the APH-1's.

The alnico II pro does have a 4 conductor cable stnadard. The 59's will get a little closer to the zepplin sounds but, the Alnico II's have the warmth. The 59's can be had with 4 conductor cable but, they are special order I think.

Doh! :smack: Theodie is right about the 59 4 conductor being special order, my bad, my APH-1n came with the 4 conductor cable but I was wrong about the 59. The APH-1n sounds to me like the early Stones era, and does sound great split into single coil though.
