New Recording

Hey all,

I've finally managed to set aside some time to record a bit. This an all-improvised jam over Rid's Dm Backing....

I decided to go with a clean lead tone and experiment a bit. Throughout the recording I switch between fingerpicking, hybrid picking, and flat picking. I messed around a bit with rakes and fingerpicked octaves...also, I "hot-rodded" :headbang: my pick by cutting grooves and ridges into one side for different dynamics...

All comments and critisisms welcome...

Hope you like it: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/4/theshrineofidiocymusic.htm

P.S. - There is a weird pop at the beginning of the recording... I couldn't figure out how to get rid of it. It usually happens in Cool Edit when you leave dead space at the beginning of a track, but that wasn't it.

Re: New Recording

the clean tone is good, but some of the gaps you left between licks we're too long sometimes.

It's a good idea to do that, but not after every lick, otherwise it kinda makes you sound like you don't know what your doing.

theres some nice licks though, what did you use to record?

Re: New Recording

Hmmm . . . none of the "gaps" that nuntius mentioned jumped out at me at all. I thought it was fine just the way it was, and a perfect example of why I find myself moving farther and farther away from distortion and fuzz.

There's just something about the tone of a guitar and amp that's dialed-in right. ;)

Edit: Ooops . . . almost forgot . . . and the fingers too. :smack:

Thanks for the critisism... I notice what you mean SOME of the time, but other times, the gaps felt right to me. The reason for some of those long gaps that you noticed is the fact that I stopped to grab a plectrum or get rid of one... Another reason was, that instead of going nuts with licks all over the place, I was only trying to compliment the backing track. I suppose if I had gone for a verse/chorus approach to the lead, there wouldn't have been many gaps.

I used my discontinued USA series Godin from somewhere in the early '90's. Then into my Vox ToneLab into my normal soundcard...

ArtieToo: Yeah, I really felt like going clean on this one... However, I'm probably going to mess around with some fusion stuff soon, and have been recording various patches on my TL and EQ'ing them so I can get some really nice distorted lead tones and them pick out a nice one later when I'm "creating"... I like getting technicalities like tone and such out of the way first, so I can focus on my playing...

Thanks guys

Re: New Recording

Soundclick Down. Dang. I'm wondering if what you did with that sounded similar to what I did. I, too, thought that that track was screaming for some ambient clean tone. That backing track sounds cool alone, and the meanderings I did also left a lot of breathing room.

BTW I never finished what I was working on.

Re: New Recording

Oh, that was a different backing than what I was thinking. Great tone!!! You sounded well in the pocket all through. Good show!

Re: New Recording

Thanks, JammerMatt...

Okay guys, I need some opinions on a new jam I did. It's all improvised, over Rid's funk backtrack. Again, comments and critisisms welcome.

It's the Em Funk Jam one.

Hope you likey, :headbang:

P.S. Lots of fingerpicking/popping in this one.

P.P.S. I have another song on that same soundclick called "SD Gunner Jam". I was wondering if you guys could give me your opinions on the tone?

I'm downloading it but soundclicks being really slow!

You'd be better off posting the new clip in a new thread if you want replies to it

Re: New Recording

Sounds cool man nice laid back groove

The guitar was a bit high in the mix and id be tempted to turn the delay volume down a tad but apart from that it was a very good tone and good playing
