Wrote this riff a couple of days ago; very Rainbow/Yngwie inspired thing in A Phrygian Major ... 5/4 time signature.

I'm curious what pickups you tend to use on these clips. You have a very sharply audible pick sound. It kind of reminds me of the picking sound my Blackouts make but those are a bit more rounded

I use whatever guitar I happen to have lying round.


I have always had an attack-y sound. Part of it is the picking technique I was taught (picking from the elbow, not the wrist), and part of it is the picks I use -- Fender Heavy Premium Celluloid. I also use heavier strings -- 10s or 11s, which allows a heavier pick attack.

On this clip, the pickups are Fender Custom shop single coils or a Duncan SSL1 in the bridge.
