new 'SD' pickups in '05 Ibanez models

I can't remember if it was on here or somewhere else, but i could have sworn i read somewhere that Ibanez and SD developed a 'special' pickup for some of the new Ibanez models, specifically the 'S' series. They were 'copycats'(for lack of a better word) of the 59 and the JB.

I'm wondering b/c the SZ320 that i just got in has 'Duncan/Ibanez' on the pickups and the older models don't have that and not just that, they sound really, really good through my little Line 6 15w, Spider II. I was considering another amp but i don't think so now b/c these pups sound damn good.
Thanks for any info anyone has.

Id do a search, theres some threads about this somewhere on this board from not that long ago.

Congratulations BTW, about time Ibanez stuck some decent P/ups in as stock!

Actually, Ibanez is putting Duncan/Ibanez pups in some of their guitars, and Dimarzio/Ibanez in some of their others. It also seems if their trying to do away with some of thier own pups, mainly the powersound series. Even the Jet Kings are now going to come standard with Super 58's. No word on the difference in price on some of their models yet, mainly because most retailers are trying to unload the 04' stuff first. Ibanez's website, and Ibanezrules.com has got a lot of info on what pickups are in the guitars now.

Just to clarify... you do know that's not Ibanez's official site... lol. Sorry if you never assumed that.

I think it's good that Duncan is sticking "copies" of their pickups in Ibanez guitars. But are these the same as Duncan Designed, but with Ibanez/Duncan on them instead?

Re: new 'SD' pickups in '05 Ibanez models

I am fully aware that ibanezrules.com is not their official website, which is why I said Ibanez's website AND ibanezrules.com. And implies 2.

Re: new 'SD' pickups in '05 Ibanez models

Is it just me or in the last few years has Dimarzio lost alot of the market and Duncan has took it right away from Dimarzio?

Thats my question exactly, I swear i read somewhere that the new Duncan/Ibanez pups in the 05s are clones of certain SD models.

they are if i'm not mistaken...Evan made a post about it somewhere, i'll see if i can find it. i just saw a new gold top SZ320 with the duncans in it at a local sam ash and am so tempted to pick it up, it looks killer with the gold metalflake paint and chrome hardware!

Thanks for find that man. Here is what Evan said, this is just what I was looking for. Thanks everyone for the help.
By the way, like I said before the 'Duncan/Ibanez' pups in my sz320 sound awesome! I may not ever need to change 'em! :)

As for the pickups, there are two sets: USA-made and Korean-made. It's easy to tell the difference. The Santa Barbara-built pickups are labeled "Seymour Duncan / IBZ" and the Korean versions are "Duncan / Ibanez."

Both USA and Korean sets are based on the same basic design. The bridge pickup is high-output with a ceramic magnet, similar to a Duncan Distortion. The neck pickup is a moderate output alnico 5 'bucker, based on the venerable '59 neck.
