New SG

The last SG standard my GF ordered got delivered (from UPS) looking like this:

Needless to say she was bummed. Our dealer, who I've bought my other guitars from, was super cool and ended up giving this to her for a killer deal. Imagine how bad I want to play this thing. I'm sitting here at my office staring at it knowing that the right thing to do is let her break it in since it is her guitar. This is going to be a long night of trying my hardest to do the right thing :laugh2:

Re: New SG

Wait, so you got that because UPS screwed up....I am officially jealous of you!! haha

Seriously dude, that is a sweet axe and a flippin' sweet deal.

Now I want one!! :)

Re: New SG

I personally like the blue burst better myself but it's her guitar so I can't say much. The stain job on these fire bursts are super nice too though. The yellow on this one is more gold in person. Not quite as striking as what the picture makes it look.

The neck on it is sooooo fast and smooth. Can't wait for her to get over here so I can play it :smokin:

Re: New SG

dude you have some serious equipment. That SG is gorgous man. i want to play it. much prettier than my Gibson SG standard.

Re: New SG

Love those Firemist finishes. How does the tone differ on those from a regular SG? Also, was the broken neck SG a Custom?

Since I haven't played it yet (she couldn't make it over last night) I can't speak from experience but from what I've read they are supposed to be brighter and more articulate than the rest of the SG line. It has a mahogany back with a maple cap and an ebony fretboard so I'd imagine that description is pretty spot on. Can't wait to hear what it sounds like...

Anyone have or heard the "57" pickups?

Re: New SG

I love all Gibson Customs, and that color is a great one. It grabs attention more than the blue, green, black SG Customs.

Classic 57's are amongst the best Gibson pickups, and they sound good with ebony fretboard Gibsons. I think they're closest to Seths. I'm pretty sure they're vintage output A2's. IMO, there's no real reason to change them.

Re: New SG

I've never been an SG kinda guy but I have to admit that's a real looker. I love the finish on it.

Re: New SG

i'm not going to lie to you so i'll say it: i hate that finish. it really doesn't do anything for me.

Re: New SG

I'm not going to lie to you either . . . that's one of the prettiest finishes that I've ever seen. If that SG plays half as nice as it looks, you have a keeper for ever . ..

Re: New SG

I finally got to play it last night and two words come to mind: HOLY CHIT!

The neck is like butter! So fast and don't even get me started on the tone. It is a blues and rock machine! It has a natural growl to it that is just awesome. And believe it or not it is not bright at all. In fact, it has a really pronounced midrange thickness that I am just loving. It kind of reminds me of a tone from someone like Cream or Stepenwolf. I don't know if it's just having a new axe around or what but the guitar really inspired me last night and I played better and with more confidence than I have in a looong time. Stoked!

The only thing I don't like about it is that it is neck heavy but I think I'll get used to it with a little time.
