No, it's not normal!
Welcome to the forum. Every once in awhile we hear of it, and we replace the pickup immediately. You can call Customer Service Monday and they'll take care of it immediately. The pickup is glued into the cover, and generally it has to get hit hard, or someone has to really be prying the cover off from the sides, working it from one side to the other.

That is what I thought. I'm going to try to take it back to Musician's Friend tomorrow, because the case is broken. They were closing when I bought it, and I didn't have time to open it up and really look at it in the clearance outlet (also the catalog center/warehouse). I suspect someone knew it was broken, and just taped the case back together. I'm not a happy camper. Thanks for your help.
