New Signature Strat from Fender

The color, style, pattern...in short, the look. I've got a burst Strat as well and I think that pickguard would look really nice on my Strat as well.

Do you mean the tortoise guard on the John Mayer Strat?

If thats what you want, go to Warmoth and order one...I put a Warmoth Tortoise guard on my black Strat and I love it!

very welcome!

Warmoth does some the best guards I have ever seen...all the screw holes lined up perfect and the edges and bevles are nice and clean. And the tortoise pattern even looks better that the JM strat in the pic in this thread!

Crap. I've got a Mexi Strat; they say the holes may not line up for Mexis. Is yours American?

Re: New Signature Strat from Fender

I love John Mayers music. All of you guys just dismiss him off as one of them pop guys, but sit own and listen to the acoustic work this dudes belting out. Not to mention, if you can learn his sh*t, you can have a fun night with the ladies.

I know Christian is right, but does anybody else think a million different signature Strats is kind of silly? Every other brand who does signature stuff (except Gibson) only markets the different stuff (ESP, Ibanez, Jackson, Schecter, etc...).
I hate to burst your bubble, but Gibson has signature guitars also. Notably the Zakk Wylde Les Pauls. :smack: :newangel:

Re: New Signature Strat from Fender

i dont like the sound of his strat much. not enough mids and a little too toppy for my tastes

Technically that's a signature signature guitar :burnout:

Re: New Signature Strat from Fender

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks to me like every sig model Fender has released in the past 10 years or so has been more or less a variation of the SRV, which itself is more or less a slightly modified early 60's Strat. I am not arguing whether or not John Mayer deserves a signature model, but isn't this just an SRV with slightly different pickups and a different pickguard?

I'm sure it's a fine instrument, but I would like to see more innovation in the Fender product for a change. How about a mahogany chambered Strat with a hard tail, satin finish, and two chrome-covered humbuckers? Or maybe an updated version of the Jazzmaster with three P90's, master volume, master tone, and a 5 pos switch? This is just off the top of my head - I'm sure Fender could do better than that if they just tried.

Re: New Signature Strat from Fender

JM may not appeal to everyone, but the guy is a virtuoso on the guitar. There isn't much he can't do with a Strat. If you've seen some of his early, live performances, you know that the guy can sling a Strat as well as anyone out here, today.

John's said quite a few times in interviews previous to the release of his signature strat that his number one electric guitar was an SRV model with a different pickguard on it.

I knew I saw it! So then the Mayer Strat should have the Pao Ferro board at least, as well as the reversed tremolo.

Even without the exact specs, the irony is still there.

Re: New Signature Strat from Fender

I dislike Mayer greatly....

...with that said I will give the guy props for having Blues chops bigger than the day is long.

Re: New Signature Strat from Fender

I think John's playing shows in his recordings. But it's the stuff that hasn't been put on the radio that is great. I think he is one of the better mainstream players/singers out there. Many of his songs involve complex melodies and rhythem, and I mean besides "Daughters". Give his stuff a try. I really admire how he can play some of the things he can play, while still singing at the same time, reminds me of Jimi Hendrix. Not in terms of level of talent, but capability of doing two amazing things at the same time. I hear so many people just strumming away Em, D, and G these days. John really gives mainstream pop guitarists/singers a new par to be graded by.

Re: New Signature Strat from Fender

i dont think he is a bad player at all. good chops.
but i dont dig his music and his voice doesnt do much for me

I put a Tom Delonge guard (Mexi) on my old MIA Strat for a one hum mod. I think one screw hole was different. It wasn't a big deal to me, barely noticable. The accual guard is the same.
