New Slash Gibson Les Paul

Re: New Slash Gibson Les Paul

I think it's cool.

Not all guitars should look alike!

Especially 60 year old designs!

Re: New Slash Gibson Les Paul

Swiss cheese actualyl results in a heavier guitar vs. chambering.

I actually prefer the swiss cheese weight releif holes vs. tone chambers.

Re: New Slash Gibson Les Paul

Its more understated than the chickenfoot headstock, which is a very good thing.

I really, really wish i had the money for one of these!!

Re: New Slash Gibson Les Paul

Considering that for less you can get a similarly spec'ed Trad Plus, or that for a little bit more you can get a plaintop VOS R8/R0....

I think the signature costs too much. The top does look killer.

Not bashing Gibson at all...I'm sure they'll sell real fast.

Edit: Well compared to a Trad Plus it might not be that much of a difference...

The A2Ps (normal not Slash) cost about $80 each in zebra, so that's $160, plus the $116 from the Tonepros bridge and tailpiece makes it about $276 in upgrades...the Trad Plus costs about $2300 so that's $2576.

I would not play a signature guitar anyways. I know it's psychological and has nothing to do with rational thinking, and I have come to terms with that. I just don't get inspired to find my own sound, and play my own way, when I see someone's name or logo on my instrument.

Nice top though, lol.

Can't forget the assymetrical necks on the Slashes. Very comfy.

Re: New Slash Gibson Les Paul

Why are the specs f'd up? Slash's most sought after Les Paul was ghost built and it was based on a '59 LP. Why does this signature model have a weight relieved body and a 60's style neck, it doesn't make sense?

Re: New Slash Gibson Les Paul

definitely a very cool finish on this one... and nowhere near as ugly as the chickenfoot headstock! not great, but definitely better.

Les Paul... It's a signature model already...

Yeah, and why is Jeff Beck signature Strat not Telecaster?
Perhaps Slash likes the weight relief and a thinner neck. After all, it's not Appetite for Destruction-era Slash signature.

You sure?

"The Gibson Slash "Appetite For Destruction" Les Paul Electric Guitar is patterned after the guitar Slash plays on the famous Appetite For Destruction recording. The Slash signature guitar is crafted with a traditional-style weight-relieved mahogany body capped with a AAA figured maple top. Act fast, because this guitar is only available in a limited-run. "

For the same reason the AFD Marshall is going to be based on a JCM800 instead of what it should be based on.

See, I almost wrote something about that fact in my initial post, but then thought to myself that everyone can agree that the Les Paul guitar is now more of a category or style of instrument than it is a signature model, and that no one would bother pointing out this fact, dated it is completely dated and irrelevant.

But inside, I knew someone would say it. ;)

Cheers
