New song Ideas. Presented poorly

This is my first recording attempt since moving to Wyoming.
It is frustrating, setting up your sound in a new place, with different acoustics in the room.

Anyway, Here's some new song ideas I came up with while playing to a click, drums were added later, and they suck, sorry about that.

If you could suffer through the crappy drumming, and give your opinions of the guitar tone and musical content, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Nick

Dayum, that's groovin'! I like it! I really like the intro/chorus riff. I think the 0:20 - 1:03 riff would come across better if it weren't palm muted. The low down riff that kicks in @ 1:49 is very cool, so is the following section.

Re: New song Ideas. Presented poorly

Thanks.

I think I should loosen up on those palm mutes, so they don't sound so choked.
I'm probably gonna do something completely different for that section anyway.

Re: New song Ideas. Presented poorly

That's a great clip.
The riff is really "megadeth..secret place" like ,but the concept is totally different!
Your riffage is even better than before ,and the groove is really cool! The sound is not "muffled" anymore ,and the tones are well tweaked!..
Cheers for that!

Re: New song Ideas. Presented poorly

Thanks

Secret place. Duh.....I knew I'd heard that riff before.
Drop A tuning changes it up nicely though, not to mention the strange Hungarian theme to it.

Re: New song Ideas. Presented poorly

Drop A on a seven string, right? What scale is it & what 7th string gauge are you using? Sounds nice & tight.

Re: New song Ideas. Presented poorly

Yep, that's my Schecter C-7. 25.5" with a 0.56 for the low B.

I usually use a 0.60. but the local music store here in WY didn't have anything bigger. Justrings.com will probably be getting my business soon.

I think it is the ash body that makes this guitar sound so good. It still has the original Duncan Designed pickups on it.

Re: New song Ideas. Presented poorly

sounded good, about the only thing I really would change is the :20-1:03 section. You play the riff 2x, then 2x higher, then 2x original, then 2x higher, then to the next section. I think that 2x, then 1x higher, then 2x original, then the next section would be better. I think that section kind of serves as a bridge between the first section and the main (middle) section.
But then again read my sig

Gotta love them Schecters. :) I'm using a .064 for the low string on all of mine, there's no way I could make a .056 work.

I keep wanting to record a clip with my seven, but I can't stand the pickups in it. I have not yet found an amp model setup for that guitar that I'm happy with.

I've been buying strings at Musician's Friend lately, Ernie Ball Slinkys. I buy a three pack of 10-46 regular Slinkys & then a three pack of single .064's.

Re: New song Ideas. Presented poorly

i even wait for my 0,10/68 set.The 60 is too loose even for the Bb...I couldn't play drop A with it!

Re: New song Ideas. Presented poorly

Yep. It's a bit loose in drop-A with the 0.56. Not too bad with a 0.60 though.

Curt, you bought the Washburn 7, correct? Is that guitar basswood?
If so, get a DMZ X2N7. Really cleaned up my Ibby RG7321.
But my stock schecter is better.-It will eventually have Blackouts.

Re: New song Ideas. Presented poorly

I'm not sure what it is. The M123 site said ash, but people online have said that those were the original, more expensive ones, & that the cheapos are basswood. I called Washburn w/the serial number but didn't get a definitive answer.

I know I want to try an Air Norton in the neck, was thinking about the D-Activator in the bridge. You think the X2N7 would be better in the bridge?

Re: New song Ideas. Presented poorly

I haven't tried the D-Activator. The X2N7 absolutely rips though.
From the clips I've heard, the DA will be a little brighter and the X2N7 will have a much bigger bottom end, but still just as tight.

Re: New song Ideas. Presented poorly

The X2N7 sounds more up my alley, then. How 'bout the D Sonic?

Re: New song Ideas. Presented poorly

D-sonic. I don't know much about it.
Supposed to be bright, and well balanced. but not as in-your-face as the X2N7.
The guys on Sevenstring.org claim it is really noisy though. but they said that about the X2N7 too, but it is quieter than the stock Ibby pickups.
