New Speaker Day! Twin Reverb / Cannbis Rex with Audio Clips.

Twin Reverb W/Eminence Cannabis Rex

Install: in a Twin RI. 45 mins. Fast and enjoyable. No chassis to remove, just remove/install and play. That was cool.

Positive Outcome: I am already familiar with the CRexs, I have it in my Blues Deluxe and Blues Junior. It has a sound that is predictable, much like a tube screamer has a sound. The CRexs take gain/pedals very much the same way in any amp I have them in, this was the purpose of the swap.
Top end is smooth, bottom end is tight, mids are present but even. That has been my reality with these speakers. Fact is, I refined my sound with the Rex and it was hard to use anything that was voiced too unlike them. So great success in the new install.

Negative Outcome: As I have stated before, I like the sound of the Jensen CK12s in the Twin R RI. They were 'hard' and more aggressive and mine had really worn in nicely. They made a couple of pedals I had even out/balance perfectly. So I will miss that. My PRS which is pretty new to me matched really well with the Jensens and the Ethos pedal or Tube Screamer pedals, but my Teles bit too hard in the top mids. So, now the Teles are back in balance and I need to look at a new OD pedal for the PRS/Twin combo. Likely a second Wampler Ecstasy. It has 3 very unique overdrives.

Overall: Sound performance was predictable and it delivered as I expected. That says a good deal about the Eminence Patriot line and consistency. The C Rexs is s special speaker and an integral part of my chain in my opinion. It works great for my style of prog rock and country.

Couple Quick Country Samples With Rexs, no shredding or hot chicken pickin: Vocals on 2nd tune my own scratch demos vocals for the artist to comp from.

Did you see what it sounded like with only one replaced speaker mixed with the Jensen? That might've meant you got the difference you were looking for, but kept enough original qualities to mean that you wouldn't have to change the rest of your rig.

In any case, congrats on the new gear. Playing's great, as always.

Yes, that is sound advice. I considered it before purchase actually to use a Texas Heat and a CRex. Also today when I was at that stage of install but honestly I didn't know anything as I never heard it with both. Plus anxious to hear it and all that LOL. It will be easy to do and I probably should. I wonder how much difference it will make to the amp with one Jensen speaker being rated at 100w and the CRex at 50w in terms of efficiency? And thanks for the good words!~ Cheers!

Re: New Speaker Day! Twin Reverb / Cannbis Rex with Audio Clips.

I'VE tried that mix ( actually a Alnico Patriot hempcone and a Jensen C12. and its no good, because of the difference in sensitivity. Its like huge, and one will be drowning out the other. I never wanted to use two Hempcones. Too smooth. I went with a Jensen C12 and a Weber 12F-Chicago 50 watt; essentially period correct speakers.

nice setup man. i have texas heats in my twin but ive installed cannabis rexes in lower powered fenders. you cant go wrong with either really.
Great sounds on the recording man. Pro slick.

Really good sounds and playing - the vocals are very good, too!

Cheers! Nice top end on that setup. The CRex / Wampler is a great combo.

Nice playing man!
Thanks! That was some low-key mellow stuff LOL. Was just choosing something to show the Twin/Crex in context.

Man I debated for a good deal of time about the Texas Heats and Swamp Thang. I checked out sound samples etc. Did you replace the Jensens C12ks with the THs? How was the change difference?
I was afraid they would be too close if I used either. I have heard the Texas Heats have more sparkle than the C-Rex, but don't do dirt pedals as well? I have also heard them described as boomy.
The Twin is a high-mid spiky amp. Not sparkly jangly like a Deluxe Reverb or Blues Deluxe IME. The CRex seems to help tame the spike and allows me to add the presence with pedals.

Sounds great!
Cheers and thanks!!

Thank you. I was a bit expecting that. I do see what appears to be mis-matched speakers in alot of amps. I need to look into this a bit more. When you inquire about a Twin and speaker replacement you get alot of different recommendations. Cheers!~

Great music, let me know if/when you have a cd out.

Great demo I wish I could get a demo to sound half as good as that.

Al, thanks bro! Good to see you about! I bought a PRS! Wonder if you ever got that Tele you wanted?

I love your demos.
Great demo I wish I could get a demo to sound half as good as that.

Cheers Bros! TO, thank you! That is cool to say and encourages me. RS216, as for demo production, this is just simple stuff and basic but quality tools. Just get to know your tools and you'll get better each run through. I think one key is treating and knowing your room and knowing your monitors. This is a temp room for me (grateful and how I got back into music is a cool story), super small room (treated) but my Monitors shoot waves into a measurement mic and create an impulse response/EQ curve to adjust for low-end anomalies in the listening position. It is never ideal, but that does help for mixing low-end. In a larger studio not needed.

As for demo playing, I try to be prepared in advance and work out what I want to do. Just play it again and again till I get it and then I go for it.
I am working on a video solution so that will be of value for future demo goals. Thanks again! I appreciate it. Cheers!

To me the cannabis has both more low end and more top end, whereas the texas is fatter in the midrange - so less sparkly really. They are both so damn cool it would be hard to choose which i prefer. In the end i like the cannabis for the low wattage amps cos its more efficient so it gives smaller amps a bit more headroom, and the texas in powerful amps cos its less efficient which works well to harness the brute power of a twin and take one knotch of volume off. They are both killer speakers.
No i didint replace C12K's cos my twin is a 1969. When i got it it had weber californias in it (too effcient and too present for me). But i have used c12k's in another amp. I like both the cannabis and the texas much more because they do not have that hard metallic clang that the jensens have.
oh yeh....if you ever want to change the tone of your twin from a high/mid spiky amp there is one cap in the tone section which will allow considerably more bass through. This small change will make your twin's tone stack the exact same as the tone stack in a black face super reverb. Twins have a .047uf cap in the bass section, whereas supers have a .022uf.
Here is how it affects your eq range - the red line is a stock twin, the blue line is a super and the green - well i dont know why i plotted that one, but you get the idea!

Re: New Speaker Day! Twin Reverb / Cannbis Rex with Audio Clips.

Fantastic playing and singing Rodney; that amp ain't too shabby either ;)

Re: New Speaker Day! Twin Reverb / Cannbis Rex with Audio Clips.

It's amazing what the Patriot line can do for Fender amps.

My blackfaced 74 Pro Reverb sounds great with the Swamp Thang and a Jensen C12N w/beam blocker.
I'm 100% sold on the Swamp Thang. They sound great together, although the Eminence has a bit more punch and volume than the Jensen. Eventually I'll swap the Jensen out for a C-Rex, Red White & Blues, or another Swamp Thang. I'm in no hurry though. The blend of the Emi and Jensen covers the frequency spectrum really well.

I am a real stinker…..

I liked your second song so much that I added it the break music that we use...
