New speaker for Pro Jr - Worth it?

Some have suggested that the Weber 10A125 speaker would make my Pro Junior less harsh and would give it a tighter (less muddy) bass response. I find this appealing. However, in your experience, do you think a speaker change would lead to a marginal or a really obvious difference in feel and tone? I don't want to spend $100 for only a marginal difference.

Re: New speaker for Pro Jr - Worth it?

I had a PJ I did all kinds of mods to. As far as speakers I had the stocker, a Celestion Vintage 10 (the old UK one, I've not tried the new Chinese model), Emi Ramrod, and Emi Copperhead. Of those I like the V10 best but all the replacements were better than the stock (which BTW was the ceramic Emi, not the blue AlNiCo).

But the BEST speaker for it (other than an external 4x12) was an Emi Black Powder. I had a 12" baffle made for it - yes, it'll fit, but the Black Powder was the only 12 I could find that was shallow enough to clear the chassis (and I had to notch the frame to clear the OT).

Hi AdmiralB! Why did you like the V10 the most out of the 10" models you tried? It would be helpful if you told me what kind of music you tend to play. Thanks

I'm researching a Blues Junior, and Billm Mods says the single biggest difference mod, (and cheap/easyish) is to tweak yer tonestack. Look - - - > http://home.comcast.net./~machrone/bluesjunior.htm

but on the other hand, the Laney all tube VC15 was killer with it's Jensen 10 inch. Absolutely wonderful. look - - - > http://www.laney.co.uk/show_prod.php?title=VC15-110

Killer bass! Everything i play and love, turns out to have mr jensen inside...so.... http://www.jensenvintage.com/

I guess I would say 'classic rock' in the sense that the PJ certainly isn't a gain machine. The V10 had that complex British mid thing going on; the Ramrod is close but a little more scooped. The Copperhead is the American 'cheap speaker' tone.

I was thinking of putting an eminence ram rod in. What do people think of that speaker? I'm going for a more voxy sound then fendery sound.
