I forgot who it was that posted the other day about having the disease of never being able to turn down a great deal, but I remember replying and saying that I was the king of that disease...lol
Anyways, I don't know how many of you remember but I recently (within the past couple of months) bought a used Spector Legend 4 Classic Bass with the holoflash finish off of Craigslist for $200. Well, that bass somehow turned me into a writing machine, and I've been posting tons of clips in the Tips and Clips room ever since I bought it. I just absolutely love the bass.
Well, ever since then I have been keeping my eye out for deals on Ebay. I remember right after I bought the holoflash, I saw some quilted purple ones, and I fell in love with them. Well, I just scored this one the other day. Now mind you, these basses go for $749 brand new. I'm not trying to brag about me being rich, because I'm not, but I will always brag about how great of a deal I score something for. I bought this brand new one for $305 shipped....lol. I'm totally estatic about that.
Now, my holoflash one has EMG HZ pickups in it. It sounds great, an I love it. However, I've been playing this one today, and it sounds different...in a better way, actually. It has the SSD INC (Stewart Spector Design) pickups in it. They seem to have a lot less mids in them. Way more bass, and the highs don't have that "plinky" tone on the high strings. The highs seem to be much more softer and rounded sounding. I'm not sure, but this purple one may have a different active preamp in it. I think that would account for that.
This purple one is much heavier. I'm not sure, but it may be different wood as well. I'll have to check up on that. As aforementioned, the preamp seems a little different sounding to me as well. It really has this nice low, and low mid growl to it. My holoflash Spector has a nice clean and clear sound to it, where as this one is just low down and dirty. I'm digging it. It's almost as if it has its own built in SVT type of tone.
Anyways........not the best pictures in the world, but alas...........
EDIT: I just recorded this so you could hear it. Everything is rather flat somewhat. It's the SVT Model on my Eleven Rack. Volume 5. Bass, Mid, and Treble all on 6. Bright switch on, and U-Hi and U-Lo at 8.5.
