new strap holder will not tighten

What should I do? I just bought new guitar (2006 MIM tele lefty) and bought strap lock system. Now one of the strap holder when onto the guitar no problems. the other (the one nearer to the neck) just wobbles around and I can't get it tight. the screw is the same size as the screw that was on the regular stap holder that I removed. Argg...would it be nuts to put some crazy glue in the hole or something? btw the regular strap holder came off very easily but I didn't really check how well it was on to begin with. As this is a lefty and I waited 2 weeks for it I really don't want to start the process over with a new guitar. Thanks in advance.

Re: new strap holder will not tighten

if you mean the strap button hole is too big, then glue some tooth picks in it.. let it dry.... then put the new strap button on

Re: new strap holder will not tighten

half a toothpick and some wood glue.

Re: new strap holder will not tighten

just to make sure we are on the same page...the actual hole in the guitar that I am putting the screw into is not holding the screw (the screw that holds the metal piece that the strap will be locked into). you are saying glue some toothpicks into the hold then rescrew the metalic strap lock in?

Re: new strap holder will not tighten

yup - exactly .. glue the toothpicks into the drilled hole in the guitar - let them dry .. then there will be enough wood for the screw to 'bite' when you screw it in

Re: new strap holder will not tighten

i have even just used a toothpick with no glue for things like this, and it worked just fine...as long as its tight enough in there, it will put pressure on the toothpick and thread into it.......but like the others have said, for more security, use some glue too

Well, in this case it´s more a case of "Why reinvent a wheel that´s been working Fine for centuries?" ;)

As others have said, Elmers and Toothpicks crammed into the hole.

If you wanna get fancy, and spend way too much time on it, get a thin wood dowel, drill out the hole so it fits, glue the dowel in, and redrill for the strap button.

Or do it the quicker, easier way (glue & toothpicks).

Re: new strap holder will not tighten

It's got to the point that i automatical reach for the glue when changing strap buttons....
