New Strat. Amer Series, or Am Deluxe

The main difference I can see is the S-1 pickup switching. Especially since I'm planning on pulling out the Fender PUP's for Duncans.

Is the S-1 switching the only reason to go with the AM DLX? Or is there another reason?

Which guitars are better made?
How about the 50th Aniversary model Deluxe?

Damn so many choices.
I want to narrow it down a little bit before I start the hands on testing.
Thanks a million,
Loudriver

Re: New Strat. Amer Series, or Am Deluxe

the Deluxe has noiseless pickups, and abalone fret markers

if you're planning on replacing the pickups, maybe it's more important just to find one you "vibe" with, whether it's a Deluxe or regular AS model

I don't see how anyone can pick a strat to buy. There's soooooooooooo many different ones/variations. It seems to me if one was a true strat player (which I'm not) you'd have to play at least 100 before you found exactly what you wanted. Sorry to get off topic.

that's true - it's a pretty confusing marketplace out there now ... just think, at one time, there was ONE STRAT, period.

Fender hasn't helped matters

I can't help but look on Ebay, and know that someone who isn't really careful, is going to end up with a foreign made strat that isn't what they thought it was

but, you're right - even with the current AS models, you have to lood at quite a few to find the right one.

Not only that but the neck is coated with a real glossy finish on the Deluxes. The standard MIAs have a more natural looking finish. I personally hate the look of the glossy Deluxe necks...... :smack:

Basically,
I'm just looking for the GO TO axe.
I have always love the strat tone, and now i want a really nice one.
I was leaning towards a ssh strat cause i like the heavy tone too.
it's a tough call.

Go American Standard, i have an american standard in burst, and my guitar teacher has an American Deluxe 50th Anniversary, ive played both, and i have to say with all honesty, i thought mine was alot better, and MORE "strat" like. The Noiseless Pickups dont do it for me.

I agree that satin necks are more playable. I think of strats as kind of mutts. You can try to dress 'em up a little, but you can't get away from their pedigree. :) They were made to be a pretty common, dependable, everyday guitar, made of everyday materials on an assembly line.

if you want SSH, then that narrows your choices. Of course, it's not a real strat. :D hahaha Just kidding of course :)

Re: New Strat. Amer Series, or Am Deluxe

IOf you do not have to have an American made guitar the Jimmy Vaughan is damn hard to beat! No kidding aside...I played at least 75 different Strats...if you incluse the G&L's and other non Fender's the number went over 100! I was just about to just throw in the towel and pull a Curly and just build the Damn thing! The JV is amazing...even the stock pups are pretty good. The Tremolo and tuners are the SAME ones that come on the custom shop reissue guitars, alder body (look out...some of the older ones had poplar), 9.5 inch radius, MJ frets, killer boat neck, CTS pots, quality switch, bone nut, schaller strap lock from the factory, I could go on all night about this guitar! The bset Strat for the money...or for 3 times the money IMO says Jimmy Vaughan on it! When I bout mine I used a CS 57 reissue as a baseline, and in truth I preferd the JV...it was far more playable!!!

Re: New Strat. Amer Series, or Am Deluxe

-I've been browsing for an American Strat lately, and I am in the same boat as you.

-I've looked at the Deluxe HSS LT, The Standar-Issue American Strat, and the 50th anniversary edition Strat.

-I like the sound of the locking tremelos, but I don't know how much of a difference they make. Does anyone know anything about the Tremelos the Deluxe HSS LT comes with?

-I'll be ditching the noiseless pickups anyway, so the pickups are of little concern to me. I'm just looking for the most dependable, practical, and highest quality strat to support some Duncan SH-6's. My neck pickup is to be determined. If you have any suggestions, please post.

-Maple or Rosewood fingerboard? I've always had maple, and like it enough. Are there advantages to the Rosewood to make me switch?

OVERALL: Which Strat is most likely to hold its Tune/Intunation the best, and support some Duncan Humbuckers? Any general info about any of these models would be lots of help. Hit me with what you've got-

Re: New Strat. Amer Series, or Am Deluxe

Unless you want the flashy fret markers, I'd go with the non deluxe.

Hey, BTW, do the deluxes also have an offset neck bolt pattern? Doesn't seem like an issue, I know, but if you ever need to bolt on another neck...
