New strings

Right now I'm using Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings on my guitar, which is currently tuned in Drop D. I was thinking of tuning it down to Drop C but I should really try some thicker strings for that if I do. What string guages would you guys suggest for Drop C tuning?

Re: New strings

Ok I was looking a little more into the different strings and it looks like the Beefy Slinkies and Not Even Slinkies are the best for downtuning. I just don't know which one out of the two would be the better choice. =/

Re: New strings

IMHO when tuning down that low you need a fairly heavy string just so they behave when you play them. Detuned strings tend to feel very sloppy under my fingers. I use dropped D, open D, and open G mostly on acoustic. I use 13 thru 56 on those guitars. I use open D and open G to play slide on electrics and I use D'adarrio nickel 12's on these guitars. The advantage is you won't have to do a whole lot of adjusting to get the guitar to play correctly. Just action, truss rod and intonation. Your good to go!

Re: New strings

Thanks. Ok well I think I'm gonna go for either the Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings, Beefy Slinky strings, or the Not Even Slinky strings. They are all good for downtuning but I just want the perfect one for Drop C. I don't want them to be too thin and I don't want them to be too thick, just perfect ya know? So I might go for the gauge in between the other two but maybe the thickest one is the best, or the thinnest. I would just like to have an idea at least before I pay about 20 bucks to have them installed (would try it myself but I've never done it before and I heard I might have to have a professional file down the nut so the bigger strings can fit through).

Here are the string gauges for the ones I mentioned.

Re: New strings

10-52 will be too thin IMO, i use 10-52's in E and drop D on a few guitars...11-54...getting warm, this may work on a 25.5" scale guitar but not for me, still too much flab in the strings...12-56 should work on anything in drop C...but for me, the best strings i found for drop C are the GHS Zakk Wylde signatrue lo tune strings which are 11-70...yeah it's a monster low E but man it sound so good and thick and has no flab to it at all. perhaps the 10-60 set of GHS zakk wylde strings would work for you, if not i'd go with the 12-56 EBs personally since i hate flabby strings. what type of guitar and what scale length is it that they are going on?

Thanks. I play a BC Rich Warlock, and the scale length is about 26 inches.

Re: New strings

Have you ever tried D'addario strings? I really like them... verY strong and stable when you're putting stuff in wierd tunings, IMO.

Re: New strings

Alright I was also told by a friend to try out the Not Even Slinkys so I think I'm gonna go for it, but since they are the thickest ones I'm just wondering if they would be too bassy. If not then it looks like I'm good to go. :burnout:

Re: New strings

Ok I'm about to wrap this thread up, but one more thing anyone can answer please? Should the Not Even Slinkys fit through the tuners and stuff on my guitar? Or is there a chance they might be too thick to fit through?
