New Tele Design

[BS123]

I'm revamping my 50's Tele design for the nth time. That's the wonderful thing about Telecasters. They're made to be modded over and over...

I have narrowed it down to three designs. All three designs will have the same pickup config.

Bridge - Jerry Donahue Model
Middle - Alnico II Pro Staggered
Neck - Alnico II Pro Staggered

Give me some thoughts...

You might want to try 500K pots if you find the JD needs a little more edge...

It does sound a little lacking in highs in some warm sounding guitars...it's my favorite Duncan Tele bridge pickup tho.

I have had the JD in that Tele before. You're also right about the highs. I do love its highend sparkle but they are a bit airy. I was actually oing to throw in a set of 300k pots that I had from a Les Paul.

I like the black guard .. kinda the '52 look

I guess that would make it a '52 Nashville!?

I'd consider shell, too, but that's me ... I'm kinda on a shell kick right now. The white/ black scheme is a pure and minimal look. The black guard provides contrast while tying in the colors of the dots, bridge pickup, and switch.

what bridge assembly are you using?

I have sent these images to a bunch of folks and they all keep leaning towards the black guard. I'm kind of partial to the white pearl aso. It looks good on about everything except butterscotch. As far as bridges go, I'm using the stock ashtray with steel saddles.

I like the refin best, too bland otherwise for me. I like thos moto guards on classic colors, they look great.

it's nice, though

I don't know if Fender's color is the same as G & L's Bel Air green, but I like that color ...

and, just curious ... why steel saddles. I thought brass was the cat's meow.

It's supposed to be that ols General Motors aqua color. Steel saddles work for now. Heck, the American Standard bridges work too... Brass is cool. It's a lttle less punchy than I like though.

Like a '57 Bel Air...

I'd prefer alnico pro flats to staggereds. Better response out of the b string. You're probably a compression hound, so it may matter less to you...

I like the flats a lot. I had them on my Music Man Albert Lee Model. However, it has a 10" radius fretboard. I'm using the staggereds because my fretboard is the vintage 7.25" radius.

A Nomad would be the absolute ticket. Man, I'd love showing up to gigs in one of those. :32:

how do you save the pics from kiesake or whatever? I've made like 100's of guitars on there, but I cant save 'em (or I can, but dont know how)

If you're using Windows, you get the guitar the way you want then hit the "Print Screen" key. Bring up MS Paint and do a "Paste". It'll be there then you can crop the way you want. Also, Paint saves it as a bitmap, so you'll want to export it as a jpg or something.
