New Tele GAS has struck me bad last night !

Re: New Tele GAS has struck me bad last night !

There was a very limited and expensive CS version as well as a less expensive version that was US made and now the MIM version but don't get too confused....the MIM version does NOT have TV Jones pickups...they are copies of Filtertrons made by Fender.

wow... sucks, but the add http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/fender-cabronita-telecaster-electric-guitar/h85072000002000 says TV Jones pups :s

Re: New Tele GAS has struck me bad last night !

Woah, about time Fender did this. Only way to get an affordable Cabronita was to go thru Warmoth or the likes. Shame they only put out a 2 pickup version. I liked the original Cabronita with the single hotter Power'Tron pickup better.

From the Fender website:
A guitar with a lot more attitude, the Cabronita Telecaster rocks a highly distinctive take on a classic design and spits out fiery, full-voiced Tele tone from two sharp new Fideli’Tron™ humbucking pickups.

Awesome. Fideli'Trons hahaha. The little trademark thing at the end killed me. I'd love to hear how does the stock pickups compare to the TV Jones. Hope they're really good to roll with them for a while because the TV Jones are quite expensive.

Re: New Tele GAS has struck me bad last night !

Good to see Fender made one at a normal price. I just don't get spending stupid money on Fenders. They were invented as working man's planks, and somewhere along the line they started thinking they were worth as much as Gibson and Gretsch guitars that are far more labor intensive.

Yes, I understand that good Fenders are better than cheap Fenders, but I also think they've lost their friggin minds over there.....charging $2500 - $5000 for $1000 guitars.

Re: New Tele GAS has struck me bad last night !

Gretsch is hardly erm all that nicely made, old Gibsons on the other hand....:)
Fender you usually get what you pay for.....or used to do?!
With this new direction they are taking....not so much!

All the Gretsch solid body guitars (3-4) i played on were great guitars - tone and build guality.
Not talking about their Electromatic series.

Now if only i had the money for a Duo Jet !

If it hasn't been mentioned already, beware MF has the specs wrong. THESE ARE NOT TV JONES PICKUPS. They are cheap Fender knock-offs called "Fidelitron" humbuckers.

I think there's going to be a lot of pissed off people thinking they are getting a killer deal on an MIM guitar with $300 pickups when that's not the case. Doesn't mean they are bad pickups, but they aren't TV Jones as advertised by MF.

Also, the picture and features on MF are lifted from the Fender website for the actual Carbonita that lsits for $2,499. Notice the picture and features show 22 frets? The Fender MIM product page shows 21 frets. All kinds of bad juju on the part of MF.

The claim to "Made in the USA" can be made legitimately when less than the whole prodcut is made in the US. I'm not saying the Fender is not ... only that it doesn't have to be.

I wonder if EPA regulations would make the application of lacquer finishes by a high volume manufacturer cost prohibitive.

Re: New Tele GAS has struck me bad last night !

Filtertrons are funny beasts...I have found that more folks are into the idea of Filtertrons than are really into the sound of Filtertrons.

Filtertrons are humbucking pickups but their tonal foot print is much closer to single coils and their output is much lower than PAF's as well...if you're not into bright cutting guitar sounds Filtertrons are not for you.

I am one who actually likes the sounds of Filtertrons and was surprised at how dark the neck and neck+bridge sounds were in the video.

Correct on the Filtertron ishoo :(

Re: New Tele GAS has struck me bad last night !

For this type of Tele to deliver, it HAS to have genuine, US-made TV Jones Classic pickups and a body so light that you think it is hollow/chambered.

The whole thing resonates like f***. To be true to Gretsch history, any Tone control would be on a toggle switch: All or nothing.

In my opinion, the easiest way to get this type of instrument on a reasonable budget would be to purchase a pre-owned American-made HH Tele and install your own TV Jones pickups.
