Darkness on the edge of Tone
This is a recording of my band last night rehearsing the final song for our upcoming album. I recorded it by throwing two Oktava 319's on a stereo bar about 6-1/2' high pointed towards the drums/amps. We're all playing in front of the mic postions, except for the drummer.
The title of the song is Gift of the Southern Oracle, and it has a couple of different feels to it, from a Dio-esque verse section to some more progressive odd-time stuff, to a very Queen inspired major key ending. But, I'll let you be the judge!
Guitar and amp wise, I was playing my M1 Tiger on this take, I believe, with a Fulltone Full-Drive 2 + Fulltone Fat Boost. Amp was a Rivera K100 stack. The other guitarist is playing a Jackson US Randy Rhoads model with Bill Lawrence pups, into a Marshall Valvestate 100-watt 1/2 stack. I think my guitar sounds louder in the "mix" simply because I had more dispersion from the full stack. It sounded great in the room, tho.
