New TO Song ...

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone
This is a recording of my band last night rehearsing the final song for our upcoming album. I recorded it by throwing two Oktava 319's on a stereo bar about 6-1/2' high pointed towards the drums/amps. We're all playing in front of the mic postions, except for the drummer.

The title of the song is Gift of the Southern Oracle, and it has a couple of different feels to it, from a Dio-esque verse section to some more progressive odd-time stuff, to a very Queen inspired major key ending. But, I'll let you be the judge!

Guitar and amp wise, I was playing my M1 Tiger on this take, I believe, with a Fulltone Full-Drive 2 + Fulltone Fat Boost. Amp was a Rivera K100 stack. The other guitarist is playing a Jackson US Randy Rhoads model with Bill Lawrence pups, into a Marshall Valvestate 100-watt 1/2 stack. I think my guitar sounds louder in the "mix" simply because I had more dispersion from the full stack. It sounded great in the room, tho.

The song is here: http://twilightsongs4.tripod.com

Enjoy!!

I'm spinning it now on repeat at work. That sounds excellent, especially considering it's live. 7 minutes?? Wow, you know I dig epic tunes. I'll get back later.

Thanx, Matt! I can't wait until the other guitarist gets another 4x12 and the sound evens up a bit! Counting on my fingers right now ... I think 5 songs from the album are between 6:30 - 8:30 long. The other 5 are in the 4:30- 5:00 range ... I don't write a song to fit a certain length, I just play until I think it all fits together. In this case, the song was done, and everyone wanted a tag, and I didn't see one fitting, until I did the key change at the end to the A Maj/B Maj/E Maj riff, and the end wrote itself!!

Yeah, that's kicking. Whenever I play with people it sounds like mush, and this sounds great especially considering only two mics in front of the whole shebang. You've got some great time changes and stuff going on. The solo sounded great and fit well and sounded pretty flawless. Great legato. I can hear the Lynch within you. Brian May at the end? Yeah, you said it! Singer struggled with that last note, but that's a reach.

Sign me up for a copy of that CD. Oh yeah, and sign it!

So, now I'm going back and forth between TO and Befemal. Am I diverse or what?

It was late, we were tired. There's one spot where the drummer dropped a stick, and normally Peej nails every single note, but of course, tape was rolling, so everything went wrong! lol
