We're trying to knock out 1 song per week. I don't focus on the vocals because I can do that on my own and make the most out of our time together, we don't live terribly close to each other.

IMO, the drummer conspicuously young and a bit frantic. I might even go so far as to use the term "overplaying".

Famous drummers such as Ian Paice and the late John Bonham could convey enormous rhythmic power with very few actual drumstrokes. Your guy needs to lay back a bit when the guitar and/or vocals are busy then go wild underneath the guitar soloing to fill out the overall band sound.
