New truss rod covers are drilled a little differently

So I order two truss rod covers from Ebay because the cover that came with my Epiphone Les Paul the lettering is coming off. So I thought it would be nice to put on a new cover. Well wouldn't you know that the new covers the two holes on the bottom of the cover do not line up completely with the stock cover that my guitar came with. I don't think I dare to screw in the screws if the holes are a bit off.

Why can't we have a standard so customers don't have to put up with this bullshit?

That I don't know. But he advertised them as a fit for Epiphone Les Paul.

I'd just return them and find a proper vender with legit Epiphone covers. They said they fit and they don't.

You could just return them, but is it worth the bother (and possible expense)?
It's not a difficult procedure at all to fill the existing holes (with a toothpick) and drill new ones for the cover that you like. That repair will never show until the cover is removed, and may be difficult to see even then.
