New Tube For My Laney?

I've got a Laney TFX320 combo. Got it for $600 dollars because the store needed shelf space (they weren't carrying laney anymore, wanted more store supported stuff), and because it was a rental. Should I get a new tube in it? Or will i KNOW when i have a bad tube? i dont know much about tubes. i know that it 'could' sound crappy, i dont know because i've never heard a bad tube. Im just going on assumption here, that its been used alot, and abused. Can sound a little harsh when cranked.

Re: New Tube For My Laney?

That Tube-Fusion is somewhat like the AVT Marshall's, I believe. It just has one tube in the preamp.

If the amp is new you could just wait a few years and change the tube as a maintenance issue. But, if you are unhappy with the sound you could change the tube to effect the sound a little bit. You would likely get more mileage from a speaker swap.

That is a pretty hefty price for that amp, especially for a rental.

EDIT: I think you payed about $200+ more than you should have for that amp. That is based upon prices in the US. You may want to bring that one back.

Some amps are way more expensive in canada. I'd just be happy you got it off from what they had it for and you like it. Also, don't forget how much it cost to ship something.

Re: New Tube For My Laney?

they said the original price was 1,300!!!! down to 900 cuz it was rental, down to 600 cuz they were liquidating. so 700 altogether.
