NEW TUBES ROCK!

I just got my Bogner Shiva back from my amp tech. Power tubes were done, preamps all checked Ok. I've always preferred the Svetlana winged C el 34s but they no longer make them so he recommended the Tung sol got home and once I got her all tweaked she sounds great. Tubes had gone micro phonic now....awesome. I still have a little tweaking to do as I A/B this with another amp but it feels good to have her back

Re: NEW TUBES ROCK!

I've got Tungsol 12AX7 in V1 in my amp.
They're very gainish and not sure you'd like them if you want a more vintage flavor.
For modern Rock sounds? Hell yeah, they're grainy and very well defined sounding.

Re: NEW TUBES ROCK!

He just replaced the power tubes. The pres all checked out fine. I have a few electro harmonics lying around somewhere so I think I am good

Re: NEW TUBES ROCK!

I'm a recent convert to the Mullard RI in V1. Tames just a bit of harsh top end that I could never get rid of with the Tung-Sol, which I liked better than the Chinese, EHX, or JJ of either variety. I think I've gone six months now without rolling preamp tubes, and that may be some kind of personal best.

Re: NEW TUBES ROCK!

How does it sound different from the Svetlanas?

Do you have any idea how many mA he biased them at? I think Bogner biases their amps at 35mA, which seems a tiny bit cold, but they do it because Bogners chew through power tubes fairly quickly if they're up around 38 - 40mA. But it sounds best around 38 to my ears.

****!
Do they really don't produce them anymore?.
I thought Svetlana (Saint Petersburg, the real one) was still producing Winged C and S series. Dont' confuse it with Red Factor' Svetlana tubes (they have the brand name rights for USA and Canada).
Last year I've purchased a quartet of (true) Winged C!.
That's a real bad new.

Re: NEW TUBES ROCK!

Get those TS tubes from Richie? He set up the X with them and they were fantastic

Re: NEW TUBES ROCK!

Yeah Richie has never done me wrong. The amp sounded a bit different but it just took a little tweaking to get it where I want it.
